Very disapponited, the location well its the busy road outside and parking onto and out of the drive. And I mean busy 24/7. A restful peaceful holiday it is not. The garden is untidy and I see has been reported before. Inside the cottage the shower just runs hot no temperature control did not use it because of this. When was the last time someone had a look at the old freezer it was just dirty, storage drawers broken it was kept in the back of the garage also untidy. And the sofa cushions are worn out need replacing. Feel the write up on this cottage to be misleading and owners should be asked to make improvements. New freezer and new shower would be a start.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review. The cottage is a convenient 2 minute walk into Christchurch town centre, so unfortunately, although this location is absolutely perfect for everything Christchurch has to offer – river walks, pubs, coffee bars, shops and easy access to the beach and the forest, due to location it is quite busy. I suggest next time you need to book a restful, peaceful holiday , somewhere like the New Forest that is less busy maybe more suitable. Although you rang me numerous times as you were unable to read your emails or work out how to use the television, I was totally unaware that you were not able to use the temperature controls on the new shower. If you had let me know at the time I would have certainly talked you through it. The shower, bath and shower screen are all brand new. I have had a look at the freezer and agree that it is not to the standard of the rest of the cottage and so I have ordered another one The cottage garden always looks a bit dreary by the end of the summer, but I believe it is a true image of it on the website. My next investment is to patio the garden which we hope will be finished by the beginning of next year.

The Old Thatch is a lovely warm, cosy and well equipped cottage. Great location, just a short stroll away from the river and the centre, and we were provided with so much information. The owner was extremely helpful too. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay in the cottage again. We have already recommended to friends and family.

We had the best time, the cottage was gorgeous and very homely. Our daughter aged 10 said it was a fairytale cottage. Lots to see and do within walking distance. We were sad to leave, next time we will hopefully be able to stay longer. Loads of info left by the owner on where to visit etc. We had great communication from the owner throughout which was very reassuring.

Cosy cottage. Very comfortable beds. Really handy for M&S food and all the shops and restaurants. Lovely walks by river and Hengistbury Head Only drawback is its on a busy road which causes a lot of noise through single glazed windows and lightweight front door.

We enjoyed our stay in this cottage, very conveniently located for town centre shops, restaurants, bars, public transport, the minster, the museum, the cinema and the attractive riverside with its little ferry across to Wick and the longer boat trip to Mudeford. Bournemouth, Dorchester and the New Forest are also in easy day-out distance. We had travelled by train, but the off-road parking was useful when relatives called. For a couple, the spacious main bedroom with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space was fine, but the second bedroom looked as if it might be rather cramped for another two adults. Traffic noise had been mentioned in other reviews and, although we were aware of it at times, we didn't find it very intrusive. It was made clear in the property description that the bathroom was on the ground floor, which, together with the narrow staircase, might not suit everyone. With so much to do nearby, we didn't use the garden area but thought it would benefit from a bit of TLC, and the outdoor table and seating might have appealed more if not so close to the house next door.

There was lots of good points but the negatives meant it was poor value for money

The Old Thatch is a lovely little cottage which is surprisingly roomy inside. Its tastefully decorated and the owner was so helpful. We received information by email from her about the local attractions and food shops and where we would be able to eat taking our dog inside the premises. A very enjoyable week and if we were down that way again we would most definitely book another holiday in the Old Thatch
