Meadow Barn is a rural retreat located in the peaceful Dorset hamlet of East Burton, positioned along a quiet no-through lane with direct access to scenic walks. This single-storey barn conversion is ideal for couples, families or friends who want to enjoy the beautiful surrounding area of Dorset. The UNESCO Jurassic Coastline is less than five miles away, with highlights such as Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. The Jurassic Coastline is home to over 300 coastal walks, offering some breath taking views over Dorset’s 200 million year old shoreline. Meadow Barn is located in the heart of Thomas Hardy country, between Swanage and Weymouth, so it’s easy to imagine life here as it was portrayed by Thomas Hardy in his fictional books, and his birthplace is also close by.
The nearby village of Wool has its own village store, a bakery and a butchers shop, and there is excellent fishing in the area in the River Frome as well as various golf courses, bridleways, cycling and riding routes. Wool train station is within walking distance with links to Dorchester and Weymouth heading west, or Wareham, Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch heading east. The county town of Dorchester is home to Roman relics, Brewery Square and the pioneering architectural royal development of Poundbury. Weymouth’s award-winning golden sandy beach and historic waterfront harbour are certainly worth a visit. Head over to the Isle of Portland, home to the world famous National Sailing Academy, and host to the 2012 Olympic Games sailing and paralympic sailing events. Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World are on the doorstep of Meadow Barn which are highlights within the local area, as are Corfe Castle, Swanage Bay, the steam railway and Arne RSPB Natural Reserve. The Isle of Purbeck is renowned for its spectacular scenery including Poole harbour - the larges natural harbour in Europe. This makes Meadow Barn an ideal spot within the heart of the Dorset countryside. Beach 5½ miles. Shop 800 yards, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Very nice cottage and friendly owners. Bottle of wine and plenty of dog treats on arrival. Cosy open fire and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Great location for places to visit. Local pub around the corner and shop only 5 min drive. Our only bad points would be bed and sofa were not very comfy. Overall we were very happy and will hope to go back again one day.

Meadow Barn, was spotlessly clean, and warm, under floor heating made a big difference. The kitchen facilities, we didnt use, (other than the kettle), but it had everything you would need. The utility room we didnt use, washing machine, dishwasher, dryer, but its all there just off the kitchen. Bathroom, was nice, very good shower, good water pressure, bath takes a while to run away. Lounge, was spacious, tv does take a while before it comes on, fire was a joy, especially when we dont have one at home. The sofa in the lounge is a little hard and not very comfortable, which is why i have given that 9/10. Would defineately return.

Lovely holiday cottage in a peaceful location. We found everything and more available to us at Meadow Barn, it was very comfortable and welcoming and has been very thoughtfully put together - a real home from home. We had forgotten doggy towels but there was a box of useful dog supplies ready and waiting for us including treats which our Lab was very happy about! Good for walks, dog friendly pubs, a little supermarket not too far away for a few supplies. Lots of beaches and places of interest nearby to visit. Although we had been warned of internet being intermittent, we had no problems at all. Also we had been slightly concerned about having to park on a grass verge outside, thinking of how narrow Dorset’s country lanes can get, but in fact the cottage is right at the end of a quiet track so the only other cars were the other couple of houses past this one. Our visit wasn’t long enough and we would all love to stay in this gorgeous cottage again.

Very nice barn conversion in a quiet no through road. We had terrible weather which flooded the nearby footpaths and made a walk from the barn very short. If I had a quibble it would be that the fridge freezer is not big enough if you are accommodating 4 people and it would be nice to have had a second toilet. Also the twin bedroom is really only big enough for one person unless its a child sleeping on the roll out bed. Very good location for sight seeing, it is only a short drive away from many of the attractions. If eating out the only evening choice is a pub(s) and they are all a bit the same. Very friendly owners and overall a good place to stay, especially with a dog. Thank you

Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Meadow barn. I have amended the guest information to include a number of local restaurants, all within driving distance. The fridge freezer is on our list of things to replace in Meadow barn. We have had a number of bookings for four adults and have had no complaints regarding the size of the second bedroom as both of the beds are full size single beds.

An immaculate, well appointed, very cute cottage in a central location, perfect for exploring the whole of Dorset. We saw so much in our 5 days, all within half an hours drive. The dog loved it too. Thank you :)

Beautiful cottage in rural setting, only fly in the ointment was the nesrby railway line. The trains seamed to always blow their whistle as the can to the level crossings! This did not spoil our holiday but was a nuisance. The surrounding area is lovely with lots of interesting places to visit.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. Sorry about the trains but it is an unmanned level crossing and it is something beyond our control.

We loved our stay at Meadow Barn. Superb accommodation and close to everywhere we wanted to visit including family and local dog walks. Also great for our hobby of geocaching as this is very close to nearby caches. Would definitely recommend.
