A great base for a family holiday, with museums, beaches and seaside resorts to keep all ages entertained!

In a great location in Dorset, White Horse Farm is situated in Middlemarsh, 6 miles south of the quaint, characterful abbey town of Sherborne, 12 miles north of the lovely country town of Dorchester and 4 miles from the small village of Cerne Abbas, with its famous Cerne Giant engraved on the hillside. White Horse Farm offers a lovely ambience for a holiday and a retreat to get away from it all. Set over 2 acres, the site has four single storey barn conversions (three for 2 people (refs 31202, 31203 and 31204, and one for 4 people (ref 31201), and a detached lodge cabin for 8 (ref 31205). Each barn conversion comes with its own decked patio out to the front, and the log cabin has its own large garden. There is a games room on site, a duck pond, 2 acres of land to enjoy and a large, Finnish-style, indoor barbecue cabin that seats up to 15 people. The holiday homes can be booked separately or are ideal for guests wishing to book a number of them for getting together.
If not relaxing on site, then Sherborne with its shops, restaurants, abbey and castle is well worth a visit, as is Dorchester with its Tutankhamun Exhibition, Dinosaur Museum, Dorset Teddy Bear Museum, Terracotta Warriors Museum and Keep Military Museum. Within easy driving distance vistitors can have family outings to the Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum, Haynes Motor Museum or wander into south Somerset and explore Glastonbury, Cheddar and onto Bath. If you are looking for some sea time, just south of Dorchester, the children will love Weymouth with its wonderful sandy beach. Perhaps explore from Weymouth, all the way down the coast to the lovely seaside resort of Lyme Regis, taking in the superb, scenic, coastal views along Chesil Beach and the famous World Heritage Coast, which is not to be missed. There is a wealth of attractions to be seen in this popular area, and you will not be short of memorable days out. Beach 18 miles. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

Great stay. Enclosed garden is perfect for dogs, also lovely terrace outside. Plenty of space for 6 adults. Owner is really helpful. Fresh eggs and cake on arrival lovely touch. The bbq hut is amazing and lots of fun.

We booked this a a family holiday that was dog friendly. We were greeted by Audrey nice lady made us a cake and fresh eggs were left and a pint of milk because it's along way to the nearest shop. Good pub next door great food and allowed dogs great help. Nice lodge big enough for 7 of us bathroom smelt of damp and sofas were really tatty and tired. But we all had a great holiday so that's all that matters. Our only issue was that it should be described as dog tolerant not dog friendly as we couldn't even go to the local pub without the dog and there were a few hot days that really dogs shouldn't be out all day but we had no choice but to take

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We appreciate we cannot always meet all of our guests’ expectations despite our best efforts, but no such comments were made at the time and so we are very disappointed to have received this score. We are dog friendly and are regularly praised for this and the scores received are totally at odds with the majority of our guest book comments, our previous reviews and our Visit England assessment. Whilst we sympathised and offered options for their dog being looked after, we like the majority of other dog friendly cottage owners and all of Cottages.com's properties, have conditions which are made clear in all our marketing and pre-advised information that dogs cannot be left unattended, are not allowed upstairs and on furniture. This is for the comfort of all our guests as not all of them are dog owners and therefore we have to cater for everyone.

The hosts were really lovely and the accommodation was great, fresh flowers, cake and fresh eggs from the chickens was a nice touch and appreciated. The grounds for us were a particular strength, with dogs and children who wanted to run about. The cottage was well equipped and with our party of six adults, two children and two dogs was excellent. I would recommend the cottage for a relaxed family holiday. We were aware of the need to drive to the beaches, Lulworth Cove and Weymouth were particular favourites. The beaches were both dog friendly and the sand at Weymouth was beautiful. There is a lot to do in the general area and also at the cottage. The hosts have an excellent games room (board games, DVDs, books and Foosball) and there is a table tennis table outside which was also great. My son said it was the best holiday he had, had for a long time and we were sad to leave.
