Jasmine Cottage is a lovely property which sleeps three guests and is perfectly located for exploring all that Dorset has to offer.

Excellent base for exploring Dorset

Excellent base for exploring Dorset

These two single-storey, semi-detached stable conversions, each for three, are in the grounds of the owners home (a Grade II listed thatched cottage dating from the 15th century) surrounded by over an acre of meadow and gardens, overlooking the River Stour and Newton Mill. Situated in the hamlet of Newton on the outskirts of Sturminster Newton, between the historic towns of Sherborne and Blandford, and just south of Shaftsbury, they are an excellent holiday base to explore the rolling countryside of Dorset and the south coast. There are many historic houses within easy driving, in particular Stourhead House and Gardens (NT), Kingston Lacey (NT), Athelhampton, Sherborne Castle and Fiddleford Manor (English Heritage), or one can explore the delightful Dorset south coast between Weymouth and Bournemouth, taking in Lulworth Cove, Swanage and Poole with their many attractions. Weymouth with its beach, fishing, windsurfing, yachting and Sea Life Centre is well worth a visit, perhaps calling in at the Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World near Wool. Or inland perhaps a day at the Wincanton Races or up to the enchanting Glastonbury Tor for some scenic walking. Shop 0.5 miles, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double (zip and link can be twin on request), 1 single. Shower room with toilet.

Both properties: Electric central heating, bed linen and towels included. Cot. DVD and small library. CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Shared laundry facilities. Freezer. Shared lawned garden and furniture. Parking (1 car). No smoking. NB: There is a river 200 yards from the property.

Unfortunately we had to cut short our holiday and had to come home early. he only problem we found is the entrance is on a blind corner and you need your wits about you when exiting.

A large sunny garden which kept our dog in safely and an amazing location just above the mill. All kitchen utensils you could need and a cosy little seating area.

This is an ideal Holiday place for 3 people. We had 1 double and 1 single but I think the double bed could be split into 2 singles. Although probably not suitable for a wheelchair user ,the place would be suited to many disabilities. It has a spacious walk - in shower (have to step in) and is all on ground level. There are a couple of small steps into the property but my 90 year old mother managed very well. The kitchen/living area is "bijous" but has everything you need - a TV, Wi Fi (says it doesn't in the advertised information), full cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge & freezer - both spacious. There are laundry facilities on site - an outroom shared with the house owner & the other cottage. There is a spacious garden with table & chairs and we enjoyed having all our meals outside as the weather was very good.It is next to a main road and there is traffic noise when you are outside but we did not notice it at night and felt comfortable leaving the windows open. The car can be parked immediately outside the cottage, on the driveway. The view when coming in and out is limited although there are mirrors but you do need to be very careful coming out onto the main road. Very ecologically friendly with all eco cleaning products and there is full recycling . (all plastic except wrappers)Very nice, helpful owner.Overall an excellent Holiday and I would like to stay there again.

A nice peaceful hideaway. Everything you could ever need under one roof. We saw the landlady on the day we arrived and only again on the day we left. Would recommend to anyone. The score of 8 for location relates to the restricted access. It's very tight and on a steep hill.

Holiday was great but you need a car as there is not many local amenities. Our car broke down the day we got there and was in garage until the day before we were heading home.

When we arrived we had a very friendly welcome. The cottage was warm, comfortable and clean; also providing us with everything we needed such as towels, appliances, cutlery/cooking equipment, along with tea bags, coffee and sugar. The location was brilliant as it was central to everything and everywhere we were wanting to go whilst staying there. There wasn’t a single day where we had any issue with the accommodation or we had nothing to do. Was also great that we were able to bring the dog along and have use of the lovely, big enclosed garden of which was overlooking the river. Would highly recommend as it’s perfect for getting away from reality! We are hoping to return soon :)
