Exmoor Cottages

Choose holiday cottages in Exmoor if you want peace and tranquillity amidst gorgeous countryside. The area is a unique environment of open moorland which covers 267 square miles and includes the counties of Somerset and Devon.

As well as moorland, ancient wooded valleys and a Heritage Coast there are lots of things to do and see plus a great choice of cottage rentals in Exmoor. By using the extensive feature list you can easily find your perfect property, coast within 1 mile, part of our heritage collection or a private hot tub, the choice really is yours.

Exmoor was named after the River Exe with its source right in the centre of the park and it was Europe’s first International Dark Sky Reserve, for the stargazers amongst us, adding to its National Park status. It also has the tallest tree and the highest cliffs in England so perfect for really bracing coastal walks and fantastic sea views. The whole area is rich in wildlife, plants and grasses plus red deer and the famous Exmoor ponies to look out for. Add to this a rich history and culture dating back 8,000 years there really is something to please everyone.

There’s a wonderful choice of cafes, pubs and restaurants serving traditional food and drink and many welcome pets if you do take your furry friend, even the West Somerset Railway welcomes dogs. This is the longest heritage railway in England starting in Minehaed and finishing in Bishops Lydeard. If you do take a trip on the train, which we highly recommend, you’ll pass through the scenic Exmoor moorlands with plenty of places to get off and stretch your legs to explore the villages and shops.

Tarr Stepps across the River Barle are a sight to behold and great to explore with flat stone steps along the river. A day on the beach is not to be missed; Dunster Beach and Watchet are lovely as are the villages. For the historians is Dunster Castle owned by the National Trust, nestled on a wooded hill and surrounded by wonderful grounds, it is very impressive. Exmoor National Park is perfect for holiday fun and a self-catering holiday cottage is the best way to enjoy a week or short break here.
