Excellent base for Dorset/Coarse fishing

Nestling below the Wessex Ridgeway and close to the spectacular Dorset World Heritage Coastline between Bridport and Lyme Regis, The Gatehouse is part of an educational complex in Hooke near the quaint town of Beaminster, and is an excellent single storey detached holiday home to enjoy this popular area. It offers four bedrooms, three shower rooms and 2 en-suite bath/shower rooms, (one disabled friendly), a living/dining room/kitchen and garden, and you can enjoy the extensive gardens around the moated Manor House and coarse fishing in the lake. The surrounding area is rich in heritage, there is glorious countryside and Chesil Beach to enjoy, walking, boating, fishing, and swimming, or visit Broadwindsor Craft Centre, Abbottsbury Swannery, Weymouth with its Timewalk and Sea Life Centre, and the pretty seaside resort of Lyme Regis with its famous Cobb, all of which will leave one with a memorable holiday. Shops, pubs and restaurants 3½ miles.

The gatehouse is a good sized property, and although I’m very happy to recommend it, it is with provisos. This is not a luxury property, so don’t book it if that’s what you’re after. It is a four bedroom single level house, which I think has been used for educational field trips in the past. It is disability friendly, with plenty of shower facilities and it is in a great location for touring the Dorset coast and countryside. It has a well equipped kitchen, and was comfortable. Each room has door closers for fire safety, which made the doors too heavy for the very young members of our party to open, but the staff were very quick to adjust the springs for us. The property wasn’t quite as clean as we’d have hoped, but again, the staff were very approachable and quick to try to sort out the issues. The property has a sizeable enclosed garden, and the grounds of the main property are lovely. Plenty of space to have a wander, a fishing lake, and the bonus of pigs and sheep for the little ones to visit too.
