This property is part of our Cottages4you collection

In superb locations and beautiful settings. Cottages4you gives you a fantastic range of hand-picked properties with quality you can rely on.

Set in an AONB perfect for a relaxing holiday and also for walking and spotting wildlife in abundance in this area.

Set in the unspoilt village of Bothenhampton about a mile from Bridport and the new harbour of West Bay, where the TV series "Broadchurch" was filmed, and its beaches. The historic rope-making town of Bridport with its twice weekly market is a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast, England’s only natural World Heritage Site. Sweet Briar (ref 8234) and Buzzards (ref 8235, first floor) are in the east wing of an old country house and Farthings (ref 19292) is in the west. The holiday properties have views over the fields and woodland of the Dorset Downs. Many badgers have made their sets in the hill behind, and there is an abundance of wildlife. For the past few years holidaymakers in Sweet Briar (ref 8234) and Buzzards (ref 8235) have been able to watch a family of deer grazing in the adjacent fields and during the summer months, bats put on an amazing aerial display. Perfect for relaxing or more invigorating walking holiday in this AONB, which includes extensive NT land. Chesil Beach, one of the finest barrier beaches, begins at West Bay. Lyme Regis with its Cobb and the famous fossil beach at Charmouth are close by. Not far away is the ancient town of Dorchester with its Iron Age hill fort and Roman town house and many other sites of historic interest. Spend a day at Abbotsbury Swannery, the only place in the world where you can walk among the baby swans (hatching from May). Golf course and leisure centre nearby. Bike hire available locally. Ideal for exploring the Jurassic Coast or for just relaxing in this tranquil village. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

Modern ground floor flat with high spec equipment. French windows out onto enclosed garden area great for dogs. 5 mins drive to shops and beach. Some noise from movement in flat above and digger on plot next door

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are so pleased that you liked Sweet Briar so much that you are hoping to come next year and you had a look round Buzzards so that you could compare the two apartments. We are glad you made the most of the good weather exploring the area with your two lively dogs. Our neighbour has had some trees cut down in his garden and the digger has been brought in to remove the tree roots. Whilst our neighbours live their own lives, they are aware that we have guests staying. They made sure that no work was carried out before 10am or after 4pm and restricted work to between one and two hours per day. Whilst the area round Sweet Briar is usually peaceful houses and gardens and farms need to be looked after and maintained throughout the year.

The excellent accommodation has everything you require for a comfortable holiday. The small private garden proved to be a great place to relax with a cup of tea or even a glass of wine. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to family and friends if visiting Dorset.

We enjoyed the holiday at Sweet Briar. We had dogs with us and there were walks in all directions from the front door. The flat was spacious and well arranged.

The owner was very welcoming leaving us with gorgeous scones On first appearance the cottage looks fantastic but it was very cold due to the tiled floors through out the mattress in the double bedroom was so uncomfortable that we lost sleep and the lounge was a bit disappointing in comfort for a winter break and no rainy day books jigsaws or games to play with From the photograph on the website we were expecting a view from the Cottage but no view but good location for beachcombing

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are so glad that you enjoyed the cream tea which we provide as a welcome for all our guests. We spoke when you arrived about the floor tiles throughout the property which are ideal for guests with dogs as there is no need to worry about muddy paws on carpets. I showed you how to use the thermostat to control the temperature as the central heating is on 24 hours a day but noticed after departure that it was on a low setting. It’s a shame I was not contacted at the time as I could have sorted this right away and you would have soon been warm. The mattress on the double bed is an Eversham mattress from Laura Ashley and is a recent addition. This mattress gives good support on the Laura Ashley double bedstead with slatted base, though we understand that this is a subjective matter. In the sitting room there is a Laura Ashley sofa and leather chair all with cushions. The view from the property is across an organic farm, the largest in Dorset, to the hill behind. The weather was typical for the time of year and was foggy most of the time and there are games and books provided which are perfect for these kinds of days, so we do not understand your comment about these.

The owners are lovely, The place is immaculate, The Downside is when theirs people upstairs you can here them talking, snoring, going to the loo. Such a shame as it is lovely . That's the only reason we won't go back I'm afraid, came home 2 Days early as couldn't sleep as their was a Bear snoring up stairs.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are so pleased that you thought Sweet Briar immaculate and we enjoyed chatting with you during your stay. It is ideal for guests with dogs, taking up to 3 per holiday. It is tiled throughout and so there is no concern about muddy or sandy dogs as the floor is easily cleaned. There is also a secure garden. The beds are from Laura Ashley and John Lewis and there are leather armchairs. There is a modern kitchen with integrated appliances. The spacious shower room is a recent addition with an easy access shower with a step of just 11cm from the floor. Guests return year after year as they find Sweet Briar an ideal holiday property. The guests in the flat above at the time of your holiday booked a much shorter stay and had already left long before you decided to leave early.
