In superb locations and beautiful settings. Cottages4you gives you a fantastic range of hand-picked properties with quality you can rely on.

Farthings is in the wing of a country house perfect for a couple close to the historic market town of Bridport.

Set in the unspoilt village of Bothenhampton about a mile from Bridport and the new harbour of West Bay, where the TV series "Broadchurch" was filmed, and its beaches. The historic rope-making town of Bridport with its twice weekly market is a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast, England’s only natural World Heritage Site. Sweet Briar (ref 8234) and Buzzards (ref 8235, first floor) are in the east wing of an old country house and Farthings (ref 19292) is in the west. The holiday properties have views over the fields and woodland of the Dorset Downs. Many badgers have made their sets in the hill behind, and there is an abundance of wildlife. For the past few years holidaymakers in Sweet Briar (ref 8234) and Buzzards (ref 8235) have been able to watch a family of deer grazing in the adjacent fields and during the summer months, bats put on an amazing aerial display. Perfect for relaxing or more invigorating walking holiday in this AONB, which includes extensive NT land. Chesil Beach, one of the finest barrier beaches, begins at West Bay. Lyme Regis with its Cobb and the famous fossil beach at Charmouth are close by. Not far away is the ancient town of Dorchester with its Iron Age hill fort and Roman town house and many other sites of historic interest. Spend a day at Abbotsbury Swannery, the only place in the world where you can walk among the baby swans (hatching from May). Golf course and leisure centre nearby. Bike hire available locally. Ideal for exploring the Jurassic Coast or for just relaxing in this tranquil village. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

Lovely little hideaway with all the amenities you need for a couples stay away in the beautiful landscapes of Dorset. The coast and costal paths are readily accessible from your door with the lovely, traditional town of Bridport a short walk away also. Really enjoyed our stay.

We enjoyed our stay at Farthings. The accommodation was nicely decorated and was spotlessly clean. The room was spacious with adequate furniture.

Nothing much wrong and in many ways v. Good but basic t.v, no oven or washing machine no DVD player no patio table only a wall to sit on outside and when you see the views you really would appreciate an outside area to do so. The owners have a wonderfull vista to enjoy almost like I max cinema we had a great time even so my wife says I am being a little harsh we have stayed in over 30 cottages

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are glad that you had a good holiday at Farthings. We do not advertise a washing machine, an oven or a DVD player. There is a modern two ring electric hob, a microwave, a toaster and kettle. Farthings is designed for walkers and for guests who want to make the most of their time in Dorset by being out and about during the day. It is also one of the least expensive holiday properties in this area. Farthings is secure, comfortable and clean with parking off road right next to the accommodation. It also has free wifi. If you wish to have a holiday cooking and watching television then perhaps Farthings is not the accommodation to book. It is always an idea to read the details of the holiday property you wish to book as this tells you what is provided and many other important points so that guests can decide prior to booking whether the property is suitable or not.

farthings resembles a converted garage where all the amenities are in one cramped room, kitchenette, double bed,2 armchairs, table and two wooden chairs,tv,shower room attached to main room. the shower room was modern but dirty in places, took pic of spider and cobweb, loo seat was forever coming apart, waste pipe of basin covered in thick dust as was the toilet waste pipe, shower water came over the floor every time it was used, areas at base of door frame had not been cleaned for several months, grouting on floor tiles was dirty, whole area needed a deep and intensive clean. parking on premises was good. bed was very hard on the body and the pillows very hard and uncomfortable. my partner awoke at 4am racked with pain from the unforgiving beds mattress. we decided to leave a day early in the end and get a comfortable nights sleep in our own bed at home. the price asked to stay at farthings was not cheap at £350 for 7 nights, and in our opinion well overpriced for what we had to endure in this cramped accommodation.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; It's such a shame that you did not speak to us about the toilet seat that broke whilst you were on holiday here. We have a friendly plumber who would have come straight away to fix or replace it for you and the same with the furniture that broke while you were here, we always have replacements for most things. We always leave a cream tea as it is a good way for us to welcome our guests and a good way to begin a holiday, but you phoned to cancel this and your partner was so disappointed on arrival. Our cleaner is upset that you did not think that the waste pipe behind the basin or the waste pipe of the toilet were clean enough for you and had dust on them. She wishes that you had told us so that she could have cleaned these areas again. As can be seen by previous reviews Farthings scores a high mark for cleanliness. The grouting between the tiles is coloured and perhaps can look as if it has not been cleaned but it is cleaned thoroughly at each turnover. The shower has been designed for elderly and frail guests who find this design makes it easier to access.Farthings is in the country and there are many spiders especially at this time of year. As it is hot the shower room window was left open before you arrived so that it was not stuffy. Farthings is a studio flat and and has never been a garage as there are five steps to access it from the drive. It is a safe and secure base for guests to come home to after a day exploring. The photos on the website show the property very clearly and all details are correct. The comfort of the bed is very subjective and we have some guests who regularly return as they prefer to sleep on a firm bed and know that they will have a good nights sleep whilst staying at Farthings. The bed linen is 100% cotton from Sea Salt Cornwall and we provide high quality cotton towels from Vossen. We are glad that you managed to stay for 6 nights and enjoy most of your holiday here. The price you paid for your holiday is set by the company and not by us. It is one of the lowest priced properties in this beautiful and very popular region of West Dorset.

Lovely apartment in a great location. We enjoyed 5 nights there. Clean and comfortable and home made cream tea with warm scones on arrival was much appreciated. The guest book was misleading as it appeared to include reviews of other apartments on the same site which gave the impression to us that access to the garden was included with our apartment which it was not. I would suggest the owners need to put a clear sign on the gate that leads to the garden that states private. We would definitely stay there again, location and price excellent!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday at Farthings finding it clean and comfortable and enjoyed the cream tea. We are confused about the impression you had that there is a garden with Farthings. All details about Farthings are correct when you book your holiday and a garden is not in these details. There is a private notice on a gate closeby to a garden and indeed to open this gate you have to learn over and move a bolt. After we have welcomed every guest in to Farthings, we always make sure that guests understand that we are available to answer any questions, so it is unfortunate that you did not do this.

We had a lovely stay, a little cramped but we expected that. Loved watching the chickens in the garden, not to far to walk to West Bay which we loved
