This stunning property is situated within a 450-acre nature reserve with excellent facilities on-site, including a spa, gym and tennis court.

Chestnut Lodge is located on the Lower Mill Estate in Somerford Keynes, a development of stunning, contemporary homes situated in a private, 450-acre nature reserve. The gated and managed estate comprises of woodland and meadows crossed by three rivers and surrounded by serene lakes. Nature lovers can walk through woodland and meadows enjoying the sight of migrating wildfowl, rare wild orchids and the observation of beavers from carefully located hides. Guests have access to all the facilities within the estate, including an on-site restaurant/bar, a spa (free of charge) with swimming pools, gym, sauna, steam room and spa treatments (extra charge). There are also tennis courts, football nets, children’s play areas, a 5km jogging trail, cycle tracks and a number of lakes where canoeing and paddle boarding can be enjoyed during the summer season. Fishing is permitted on-site (licence required).

It is a short walk from the estate to the local village pub serving real ale and good food. The estates ’Activity Hub’ provides equipment hire (water pursuits, cycling and tennis) and a source of knowledge on how best to enjoy the estate and local area. Outside the estate the wider area of the Cotswolds Water Park offers further opportunities to observe wildlife and to participate in activities including wakeboarding, water-skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, paintballing, cycling, horse riding and rally driving. The wonderful countryside of the Cotswolds surrounds the water park, and Bath, Oxford, Cirencester and Cheltenham are all within easy reach. Chestnut Lodge is a mid-terrace property over three floors. It has the space and facilities for up to 8 adults and a baby. A lovely feature of the property is the uninterrupted view of the adjacent lake and the setting sun from the lounge and patio areas. The patio area is enclosed and provides an outside dining space for 8 people with a charcoal barbecue for al fresco cooking. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

    Brilliant weekend - we stayed here last year too. Very comfortable and fun had by all! (Even with rubbish weather!) Love this holiday home, has everything you need. Only request would be a broom / dustpan & brush or hoover in case you spill cereal etc... We will be back in 2019! Thank you!

    Great place to stay, really well equipped. Only problem was the washing machine wasn't working but it was only a long weekend so didn't really matter.

    Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay. We hope the fault with the washing machine was not too much of an inconvenience, the faulty part has since been replaced and it is now working properly.

    My 60th birthday weekend was ruined. I don't consider this to be a luxury property, I sent the property manager 40 images of general damage, chipped plates, dirty saucepans and hob etc. My dog got glass in his paw from the pathway outside the property. No mobile phone connection. The on site property manager could not take constructive criticism. The owner has never responded to my complaint. I could not recommend this property and feel the rental cost is far too high in its current condition.

    Response on behalf of the owner; We took ownership of the property in November and since then have invested considerable time and money bringing the property up to a higher standard, this has included replacing all the crockery. Further improvements will be made in the closed season. The area around the property does have several dead zones for mobile phone reception, unfortunately there is nothing any of the house owners can do to overcome that. Better reception can be found just outside of the house, alternatively communication is available through the free wifi in the house. We are sorry to hear that your dog was hurt outside the property, we have stayed in the house with our dog on a number of occasions and have had no problems from glass or any similar hazard. We have always found the estate to be well maintained and believe it was an unfortunate but isolated incident with your dog.

    Dishwasher did not clean crockery properly. No rinse aid or salt in property which was probably reason for this.Chest of drawers front broken in main bedroom. For a property sleeping 8 there were not enough crockery eg cups/mugs etc. Generally not as well looked after as other properties we have used in the complex

    Response on behalf of the owner; As new owners from the beginning of November, we recognised that several aspects of the property needed updating. A number of improvements have already been made and this will continue until a consistent high standard is achieved throughout the property. The updates made so far include replacing the furniture in the master bedroom, upgrading the soft furnishing throughout, in the kitchen the crockery, cutlery and other utensils have been replaced and expanded to better suit the needs of our guests when the house is fully occupied.

    The only issue we had was the dish washer didn't seen to wash properly. It didn't stop us enjoying our break.
