Despite being in a special location and being generally of a very good standard we would not stay again because of the double bedroom. The bed is a 4ft 6inch size and I would not use less than queen size. More relevant is the ensuite “bath”. If we had been aware that the bath was a terribly small disabled bath, provided with an overhead electric shower that was, to sat the least feeble, we would never have booked. There were no pics of this bathroom on the website we used to book. There were several other issues with the property that we were not happy with, but these would not have been a show stopper, just irritations. We came away feeling that the owners need to update the property in the near future to make the best of the stunning location.

We would highly recommend this holiday cottage to all. Very pleasing setting, great gardens and full of wildlife, including the night time hedgehog running past the window! Very welcoming owners and lovely eggs from the chickens. We were very pleased and are looking forward to visiting again in the future as the cottage fully met all of our needs.

Unfortunately for us it was not truly dog freindly, whilst our dog was encouraged to chase and catch squirrels when a chicken got out from it pen it was our dogs fault that it was chased and bitten . Then it was suggested that we needed to train our dog better , not that the owners should secure the pen better. A rather sour taste was left shame .

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We point out to every guest that arrives with a dog that we have a pond that is netted and that we have hens behind a 3ft fence. I always mention that one of our hens is an escapologist and that she could be anywhere in the garden. We did not encourage these dogs to chase squirrels, but said that we did not mind if they did. We always assume that dog owners who visit have some level of control over their dogs – either that or that the dogs are on leads when outside the building. Within an hour of their arrival, we found these dogs running back and forth outside the fence where the hens are kept causing them some distress, with the owners calling and calling them from a distance, and the dogs completely ignoring them. We put this down to the dogs being exuberant after a long car journey, and that they would soon settle down. The next day they climbed through our five-bar gate and into the road, again ignoring the owner’s command. That should have forewarned us to insist that the guests dogs were kept on leads. Later the next afternoon, my partner noticed that our black hen was out, and went to put her back in. But the dogs beat her to it and despite her best efforts to remove the dogs from the hen, she could not save it and sadly the hen died. The guests were very apologetic and we then did politely request that the dogs were to be kept on leads while outside the building, and they agreed to do this. Unfortunately this was not carried through as twice I had their terrier corner me, barking and snarling at me until the owner retrieved it. We always appreciate that we have guests staying with us and that they are paying for their holiday. Over the last nine years, from the comments on the Reevoo system and from those also in our visitors’ book, we seem to get things right nearly all the time, and we’ve had, on average, 25 dogs a year staying with us. We are dog lovers and have owned a number of German Shepherds in the past. The booking agency’s rules are quite specific “…you must keep dogs on a lead within the boundaries of a property including the garden.” We rarely have to ask guests to do this with their dogs, as their dogs are either on leads or under close control. A whippet and terrier is a combination that needs to be well trained if not on leads and after the incidents we had with these guests dogs we unfortunately did not believe this to be the case.
