Enjoying a wood burner and situated within walking distance to the local inn and a restaurant - a perfect retreat for couples!

These delightful holiday barn conversions (30813, 30814, 30815 , 30816 and 30817) are situated on the owners working dairy farm in the picturesque location of Arlingham, Gloucestershire. Located in the horseshoe bend of the River Severn, Arlingham is surrounded by fantastic views of the Cotswold Hills and the Forest of Dean. Clay pigeon shooting on the farm can be arranged at weekends for either groups or individual shoots by prior arrangement with the owner. Within a lovely woodland walk you will find the local village inn, were you will find home cooked food, real ales, fine wines and a warm country welcome. Also within walking distance is another award-winning inn, renowned for its fresh seafood. Several other pubs, restaurants and take-aways are only a short drive away. This wonderful area is an ideal base for circular riverside and country walks and to explore the Severn Way. The river runs for 2 miles along the farm itself, with its own walks and perfect picnic spots. To reach the holiday properties, guests will need to pass through the village of Frampton-on Severn, which is home to the longest village green in England offering two pubs, a village shop, a cafe, canal side walks as well as annual events such as Frampton Feast (August), Giffords Circus (August) and Frampton Country Fair (September). Further along the canal bank in the village of Saul, guests will find a cafe which offers a wonderful spot for tea and cake whilst watching the boats go by. Saul also has a marina. Also within easy driving are Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetland Park, Cotswold Water Park, Berkeley Castle and butterfly house, Prinknash Abbey (Bird and Deer Park), Thornbury Castle and Cheltenham race course. The historic town of Tewkesbury with its famous Abbey, Westonbirt Arboretum, Stratford-upon-Avon, the Roman city of Bath, Regency Cheltenham and the cathedral cities of Bristol and Gloucester with their historic docks are also close by. Many National Trust properties in Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, including Berrington Hall, Brockhampton Estate, Hanbury Hall, Woodchester Mansion are worth a visit, as are Bristol, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud and Cirencester. The cottage was clean and comfortable, with a pretty well equipped kitchen and a lovely bathroom and we had an excellent new year break. It was a little smaller than it appeared from the pictures, and the layout of the living area felt a little functional rather than cozy. The slightly odd homemade hanging area did appear quite strange in the otherwise high quality finish of the cottage. The location was lovely and we spent the whole time walking on the local footpaths. The walking information in the cottage folder was great however an ordernance survey map would be really useful. Unfortunately it was too warm to use the wood burner, but the festive decorations were a really lovely extra touch which helped make our quiet new year break really special.

Lovely place, lovely people. A nice quiet location. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and the bathroom very well equipped. The actual living area would benefit from a more comfortable seating option. The two seater sofa, whilst comfy in it's self, is too small for two people to "lounge" on. TV very small for the room and no option to watch TV in bed - the most comfy location. But these are small niggles. The hosts were warm, friendly and welcoming. Very helpful and gave good advice about local places to eat and visit. The local walks are nice and worth the effort. Red Lion pub is lovely, the village green is a must visit and the local garden centre is a breakfast feast. The only downside is the need to drive pretty much everywhere. But if you do your homework properly you know where you are heading and what is nearby. We won't be going back, we've pretty much done everything there is locally, but would happily recommend it to anyone wanting to visit the area. As a base it's quiet and lovely to stay in.
