These delightful properties, converted into comfortable holiday cottages, stand in the grounds of the owners’ working farm (care needed with children) and equestrian centre (guests can bring own horse or pony by arrangement). The Granary (ref W43949) is a spacious barn and has been restored, taking care to use many of the original features and characteristics of its original life as a granary – the beams, the grain bag pulley system and other unknown objects have been put to good use. Both The Coach House (ref 15661) and Hog Pits (ref 18961) are all on one level and have a cosy woodburner. They all have an enclosed garden with lovely views over the countryside. The chickens and pigs are a delight to watch in their free range enclosures. This is the perfect holiday base from which to explore the many attractions Wiltshire has to offer – just 5 miles from the M4 yet in a completely rural setting. There are many footpaths and cycle routes in the surrounding area, with the Wiltshire and Berkshire canal towpaths also nearby. Within a short drive are the picturesque villages of Lacock and Castle Combe, both favourite locations for TV and film directors. Lacock features in Harry Potter, Downton Abbey and Pride and Prejudice, and Castle Combe was the backdrop for War Horse. Chippenham is an old market town with good shopping facilities and Devizes is on the Kennet and Avon canal with the famous Caen locks. Bradford on Avon is often referred to as a ‘mini Bath’ with splendid Georgian architecture and a bustling community. The Roman spa city of Bath itself is a short drive and a must visit for a day out, with many famous sights to explore such as the museums, the abbey, Pulteney Bridge and the Roman baths to name but a few. Bowood House has magnificent gardens and adventure playground, and the famous ancient sites and stone circles at Stonehenge and Avebury are well worth a visit. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles. Properties 15661, 18961 and W43949 can be booked together to accommodate up to 15 guests.

The property is a little ‘tired’ but is still comfortable. Comments in the visitors book indicate that the property is not very clean, but as it’s a old building located on a working farm it’s well within reasonable expectations. The family owners are lovely and really accommodated our 2 children. Our 15 month old had a wonderful time following the chickens around the farm yard! Goat and pig were fed by the children every day, and we even got shown some lambs that had arrived very late in the breeding season. We will definitely return here but would probably stay in another cottage on the farm as they are slightly bigger and more modern. Trying to accommodate a travel cot in this cottage was a challenge, and regardless of which bedroom it was in, it blocked access to the wardrobes...

This cottage would be fine for a couple but very small for a family. A lot of dust and cobwebs, could have been cleaner! Stone floors authentic but very uneven, obviously, for elderly and kids! Location pretty, but not much local for days out!

We had a wonderful week here with our family (including the dog). We were warm and comfortable and it is lovely to look over fields. Great hosts, thank you.

We felt the cottage was very tired and run down and in need of a good clean up and upgrading. There were a lot of Cobwebs and several spiders visible in the cottage and were shocked to discover that behind all the beds were a mass of cobwebs which we immediately set about hoovering up as best we could with limited access. We noticed that there were no comments made within the last month from previous guests which was unusual. The owners were very pleasant and helpful but as we were unwell we did not feel well enough to raise our concerns and needed to return home early. We hope this review will be helpful for other guests and serve as a useful prompt to the owners and this review is nothing personal.

Response on behalf of the owner; I am sad these guests felt they couldn't come to us with any problems, particularly as we them every day. It is always helpful if guests mention things so that they can be dealt with.

The owners were very friendly and helpful and the coach house had everything we needed for our week long stay. We would have preferred to be closer to a pub as the cluster pub was a 2.5 mile walk each way.
