Description

Ivy Cottage is great for walkers as it is situated in the village of Chedworth where there are many footpaths to enjoy.

This charming 19th century, stone-built cottage, with oak beams and inglenook fireplace, has been sensitively restored to a very good standard, and is perfectly situated in the heart of the Cotswolds for exploring this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Upon arrival you will receive a welcome pack which includes a complimentary bottle of white wine. Set in a pastoral valley, Chedworth is a picturesque village, where you may see alpacas in the surrounding fields and gamboling lambs in spring. Unspoilt by tourism, it has many public footpaths in and around it, and lays claim to being the longest village in England. Nearby is Chedworth Roman Villa, and at just 15 minutes’ drive is the Roman town of Cirencester (Corinium), with its amphitheatre and museum, which has two superb mosaics. The beautiful market towns of Winchcombe, Stow-on-the Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Campden are all an easy drive away, and for a day trip, why not visit the Roman spa town of Bath; Cheltenham and its racecourse; Oxford’s dreaming spires; Stroud and its artists; Tetbury with its antique shops and ancient covered market; Malmesbury and its abbey, (the burial site of Athelstan, the first king of all England); and Bristol with its historic docks? Seven golf courses and seven riding stables all within 25 minutes. Farm shop 5 minutes by car. Shops 8 miles, 17th century pub and restaurant 100 yards.

Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with beams and tiled floors. First floor: 1 double bedroom. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle, bidet and toilet.

Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Gas central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freesat HD TV/DVD (BT sport package). Gas range. Electric oven. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Enclosed garden with sitting-out area and furniture. Barbecue. Parking (1 car). Cycle store. Welcome pack. No smoking. NB: 7 steps in garden.

very comfortable, private cottage. Only negative is the drive to park on it is a bit slopey and you have to back in. And with our car being quite low it does catch underneath. Also the remote control for tele wouldnt work up or down only once in 5 days did it work. Just small things as other than this the cottage is lovely.

The small cottage is well-located for an exploration of the Cotswolds AONB. Chedworth is a charming little village with a pub, shopping is a 13-minute-drive away. If you want rural, this is one to go for, with lots of walks in the vicinity, as well as attractions close by. The cottage itself is well-appointed, spacious enough for a couple, boasts a very pretty bathroom with a good-sized bathtub and a separate shower cubicle, a practical kitchen, a small and secluded garden and back yard. I particularly appreciated that everything you needed was there: dishwasher, washing-machine with dryer, all the kitchen utensils, even a cheese grater that works. The small stove works wonderfully well (the initial firewood supply was generous, but you will need to buy more if you use the stove every evening) and was a welcome treat. The caretakers are close by and very willing to help if you have questions. Things to be aware of: the parking space next to the house is not very wide, so if you plan on coming with a big car (Mondeo or larger), you will have to park carefully. My Prius was just the right size. Also notice that lots of roads in this area are quite narrow or single lanes, so coming with a smaller car makes sense anyway. You have two floors, connected by an open staircase, so if there is two of you you will need to synchronise as you cannot shut a door between the living and sleeping spaces. I really liked the cottage and want to congratulate the owners and the people looking after it on their attention to detail.

Perfect for a quiet break or as a base to explore the Cotswolds. Comfy and cosy with a local pub 100yds away serving good food most evenings, local farm shop which doubles as a café selling an excellent breakfast.
