The only criticism would be that the settees need replacing, other than that we had a very enjoyable stay

Had a great stay at the Old Granary. Booked to go for my husbands birthday with a group of friends. Very spacious, bedrooms good size and beds super comfortable. Was easy to keep warm. The kitchen was stocked with all the utensils you could think of. Local town is walking distance, after a few beers takes time to find your way back (haha). Owner of the cottage was very helpful before hand and had suggestions on where to go depending on what you are looking for. Would defiantly book to go back, maybe in the summer where you can benefit more of the outside space. Only downfall really was the shower wasn’t the best, however for the cost and the duration of time we stayed this didn’t cause an issue for us!

A lovely spot with a very comfy property, lovely beds and really helpful owner! Could do with updated showers and replacement seating in living room

Cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. Swimming pool heated by solar power so not so good if little sun! Despite that we had a great time.

Lovely location. Comfortable beds. Good for a family holiday. Enjoyed the warm pool and tennis court. Several things needed fixing (toaster, fridge shelving, shower rail, towel rail, lock on bathroom door- which owner has been informed about) Good for cycling on quiet roads, fantastic birds of prey centre, forest of Dean cycling and canoeing on the river Wye.

This could have been a lovely cottage, and the setting is beautiful, but it needs a thorough overhaul. It needs decorating and broken things need mending. For instance it needed a lock on the shower room door and the fridge hads just one shelf in the door rather than the five that should have been there. We had good weather but if it had been cold the holes in the front door would have been a problem. Many of the comments in the visitors' book said the same so no-one seems to be taking any notice. There were rather abrupt notices around the place about what we must and must not do and we had to pay £45 extra for the week for use of a cold, small pool which wasn't available at all times (particularly the last morning when we could have had a final swim but chemicals had just been added). Though the £45 was stipulated in the cottage details it seems a lot for what we had. The grounds were well cared for so it's a shame the interior wasn't.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you to the guest for taking the time to post a review. We appreciate the compliment to the “well cared for” grounds and “beautiful” setting. A new fridge was installed shortly after this guest left, and a lock was added to the downstairs shower room. The small cracks in the front door have now been mended. The pool is an outdoor, heated pool that is normally kept at a temperature of 27 degrees. The pool itself is about 32 feet by 16 feet; there is also a large pool patio for lounging, a BBQ for guests’ use, and a pool hut with running water and a fridge. The pool is cleaned and maintained regularly, which necessitates closing it briefly at certain times. Unpredictable weather-related issues sometimes require the use of extra chemicals to keep the pool safe; unfortunately, the one time this occurred all summer was the guests’ day of departure. As the chemicals were added at around 9:15am, and the guests were meant to vacate the cottage by 10am, they did not lose much pool time; however, we appreciate the loss of a final dip must have been disappointing. The low cost for the pool reflects the fact that the pool is outdoors and so can be affected by weather conditions. Most guests appreciate the comfort of a heated pool, and find the cost well worth it.

Cottage is well situated for visiting the Forest of Dean. Birds of Prey centre is brilliant and within walking distance. Property could do with redecorating and the shower room needs a lock on the door.

A lovely stay in a beautiful location, stunning scenery and the house itself was a nice conversion with character. We were disappointed to find out that the pool was unavailable, 3 days before our visit, as that was the main reason for booking the place but we made full use of the tennis court. Wifi only worked on the first evening and the showers both need upgrading. A successful visit overall with the International Bird of Prey Centre just down the road - we spent a whole day there.

We had a very enjoyable stay at The Granary. The cottage is well equipped and good for families. It would benefit from some redecoration and new windows, but this didn't really detract from our stay. The owner is very pleasant to deal with.
