Description

You can enjoy a peaceful holiday at this property, yet the coast, Bodmin Moor and Tamar Valley are only a short drive away.

This delightful and spacious old school dates back to the 1800s. Formerly the schoolmasters’ residence, The Headmaster’s Cottage has beautiful south-facing gardens and level lawned grounds of almost 2 acres, part of which is an established wild flower meadow attracting an abundance of wildlife. All windows and the outside seating area benefit from fabulous, uninterrupted, 270° long distance countryside views across Kit Hill, Caradon Hill, Sharptor, Notter Tor and Bodmin Moor. Public footpaths and quiet lanes, accessed directly from the property, offer the opportunity to walk or cycle amidst this wonderful countryside.
This beautiful area of Cornwall really is a hidden gem - its central location and easy access to all major routes means that exploring the many delights of both Cornwall and Devon are convenient options.
Nearby gastronomic delights include Master Chef Winner Anton Piotrowski’s award-winning gastro-pub, The Springer Spaniel, at Treburley, whilst Louis’ tea rooms on Kitt Hill offers breathtaking views of Plymouth Sound.
All weather attractions include the donkey park with its children’s play barn and Trethorn Leisure Park.
Local National Trust properties include Cotehele, Buckland Abbey and Lydford Gorge.
Neighbouring Bodmin Moor villages include Pensilva, with moorland horse riding, and Minions with its moorland walks to the ancient Hurlers stone circles and the Cheesewring rocks, which offer fabulous panoramic views to the coast.
The open-air Sterts Theatre is close by, as is Siblyback Lake with its water sports, windsurfing, fishing, kayaking, walking and off road cycle route.
The lush picturesque Tamar Valley is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and World Heritage Site, where Gunnislake forms the start of the stunning Tamar Valley Railway Line. Canoe and cycle hire is available at Calstock which is opposite historic Morewellham Quay on the banks of the beautiful River Tamar. Nearby St Mellion International Resort offers golf, health club and a spa.
The ancient market towns of Callington, Launceston (with its Norman castle and steam railway) and Liskeard (which offers a scenic train ride to the golden beaches of Looe) are all a short drive away.
Cornwall’s fabulous north coast with the unforgettable beaches of Padstow, Newquay and Watergate Bay; The Eden Project; and the Jamaica Inn, of Daphne Du Maurier fame, is under 1 hour away. Similarly is the south coast with its atmospheric fishing villages of Polperro, Fowey and Looe along with the historic Atlantic Ocean City of Plymouth.
Outside, the property has gated, level car parking with storage for cycles, canoes, boat and trailer. Inside, Cornish Delabole slate floors, leather sofas, oak furniture 200-thread count designer bedding and fluffy white 100% Egyptian cotton towels complement this perfect hideaway, which is ideal for discerning couples and small families seeking tranquillity and relaxation off the beaten track after a day spent enjoying the local region. The Headmasters Cottage is decorated and furnished to a very good standard and spotlessly clean. The view from the outside seating area is delightful and the large garden is well maintained with well stocked flower beds close to the cottage. The property is in an excellent location for exploring the Tamar Valley and centrally located for easy access to both the North and South coasts of Cornwall. Callington town is a short drive away (less than 10 mins). My wife and i thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage.

Beautiful cottage in beautiful surroundings. The owners were very friendly, and helpful and gave us some good recommendations of places to visit. We would definitely recommend the cottage to friends and would go back.

Headmaster's cottage is beautiful- it is one of the loveliest cottages that we have stayed at. The owners are very friendly, providing lots of goodies and useful tips for days out. The location is idyllic - very peaceful. The coast / countryside ( whichever you want to visit) can easily be reached from this cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay at this cottage.
