    This was our second stay at the Old Butchers as we loved it so much last year that we booked it again, unfortunately we had a terrible stay this year,we had no heating or hot water from Monday to Friday, we contacted the caretaker Gill as soon as it went off on Monday, she was very pleasant at first and even told us that she has been begging the owner to get a new boiler as they keep having problems with it, she even told us to try and get some money back, the guy that came out on the Monday even showed us the parts that had already been replaced and showed us a laminated sign in the boiler cupboard instructing engineers to keep the hot water on to twice a day, thankfully he changed it to all day for us, shortly after he fixed it it went again, and Gill said she would get somebody else to look at it, they came out and replaced the coil and it worked for about 20mins then went again, so she asked us to the leave a key in the box outside and she would get another engineer to look at it, this went on from Monday to Friday, and we had to text her to ask if it had been fixed as we had not heard from her, meaning we only had one electric shower to use which was in my fathers room, my father has heart failure and sleeps a lot, so this meant we had to keep waking him up to use his shower, the reason we booked a two bathroom property was so the we didn’t disturb him. We also found it very disturbing that we had several different people coming in and out of the property to fix the boiler, the caretaker asked us to leave the key so one of the engineers could enter the property, we agreed because we had no choice as we needed heat and hot water, the caretaker clearly knew there was something wrong with the boiler before our stay and if we had been notified we would have gone somewhere else, this was meant to be a relaxing time for my father and family, but it left us very stressed and upset that we had been blamed for it! On Friday (our last day) Gill the caretaker text me to say it was now fixed and insinuated that we had changed the dial, we found this very upsetting as she had already admitted that there was a problem and that a part was changed during our stay, so we were shocked that we were getting blamed, it makes no sense that we would turn off the heating and hot water! When we pulled up on the drive we noticed the the windows were so dirty that we could barely see through them, the conservatory doors were left wide open and it was cold and damp, there were dead flies everywhere, black dog hairs, dirty marks on both sofas, broken furniture in conservatory, coffee mugs were dirty (we had to wash them ourselves) dirty bed sheets, long black human hairs everywhere in the back king bedroom, the floor looked like it hadn’t been hoovered at all, thick dust on lamps and bedding and top of wardrobes, dust and hair band left in the laundry basket, we had to put everything back in the bathroom as it was all on top of the toilet seat, ie the bin, towels etc, it wasn’t like that last year, dirty marks above and on the radiator, hangers left in the kitchen, rat poo in the garden, the owner said it was seagull poo, rat poo is completely different from seagull poo!!! On the Thursday the guy that came to fill up the oil, didn’t knock he just opened the gate and and walked in, as a result the dog ran out on to the road and my son was following him. Thankfully we took pictures and screen shots all the texts of everything during our stay and sent them all to the agent, the owner refused to compensate, but thankfully the agent did compensate, we would NEVER stay at this property again! Or any of the other properties that the caretaker cleans!

    Response on behalf of the owner; We have spent a great deal of time addressing this guest’s complaint separately and we feel that there are too many inaccuracies within this review to be able to fully address them within this forum. We are proud of our home, and have very many returning guests, with extremely high cleanliness ratings. We enjoy sharing our home with people who appreciate and enjoy it as much as we do. We are inspected annually by the lettings agent and reports consistently state a "very good level of maintenance." We hope that the vouchers the guests received in compensation enables them to enjoy a more relaxing and restorative experience.
