A charming barn conversion with wood burning stove and stunning scenery. Access onto the Pennine Way and village amenities just 200 yards.

Ideal walking base

This traditional, red sandstone barn has been tastefully converted to create two holiday homes which retain a good deal of charm and character. Surrounded by stunning scenery, the cottages stand on the edge of the picturesque and peaceful small fellside village of Dufton, which has a good pub on the village green and is on the Pennine Way. There is excellent walking and cycling from the doorstep and one of the highlights is High Cup Nick which is a spectacular geological feature and walkers are rewarded with an amazing view along the Eden Valley to the Lakeland fells. The ancient, attractive market town of Appleby, 3 miles, stands on the River Eden and is on the famous and scenic Carlisle to Settle train line. Dufton provides a good base from which to explore the contrasting but equally beautiful Lakes and Dales National Parks. The Scottish border and Hadrian’s Wall are also an easy, pretty drive away. Have an afternoon tea at the tea room, 200 yards. Shop 3 miles, pub with restaurant 200 yards.

Ground floor: Living room with beams. Dining room/kitchen. 1 double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. First floor: 3 bedrooms: 2 double, one with en-suite shower room with toilet, 1 bunk. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

As the cottage was meant for 8 people we found the seating area too big. We would have been grateful for a second set of towels as we booked for two weeks. On the whole we enjoyed our stay. U Saunders

Lovely spacious cottage, with stunning views. Really good for the two toddlers in our party to run about and the children's toys and books were an unexpected bonus. The farm across the road wasn't noisy and the kids loved looking at the calves and tractors out of the window. The cottage was really warm so we didn't need to put the wood burner on. We couldn't work out how to work the TV's but we decided not to ask the owner as it was nice to have a TV free weekend. There were plenty of books to read should we have had time. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed and the big dining table meant that we could all eat together. The owner was very welcoming and accommodating in our communications prior to our arrival. The Stag Inn is a short walk through the village and does amazing food and ale.

Hindriggs cottage had everything we were looking for. It is very spacious and warm. In a lovely location. It was especially enjoyed by our grandchildren, and we had enjoyable meals around the large table in the kitchen. Would definitely go back.

The cottage is very spacious in a lovely area with a lovely pub in walking distance for the cold winter nights however the kitchen was very poorly equipped compared to other cottages we have stayed and maybe a minor thing, but no welcome milk/wine or biscuits and the place was dirty. The grill was caked with grease and there was even a dirty child's nappy in our bathroom bin that had not been changed. Loads of the lights were broke and the owner did not even come to welcome us once in the weekend. It's a shame because with a bit of love it could be a beautiful cottage if kept clean and maintained

Not our first visit to the area, we've stayed in different cottages and hotels in the area, Hindriggs is near the top of our list. I would recommend this property as there is ample space for large parties of people. The location is ideal as it caters for those who love walking or those who just want to relax. The Stag Inn serves lovely foot and has a good selection of beers.
