Grasmere and the Langdale Valley Cottages
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Grasmere and the Langdale Valley provide some of the most perfect cottage holiday destinations in Cumbria.

The picture postcard village of Grasmere is one of the Lake District''s most loved attractions and it’s certainly one of the prettiest villages in the Lakes. Grasmere’s close proximity to the neighbouring Langdale Valley makes it a particularly popular destination with walkers. The area is populated with lakes, woodland and slate-coloured hills that offer some of the most wonderful landscapes in Cumbria.

Ideal for a family holiday, getaway with friends or romantic weekends, Grasmere offers visitors so much, from relaxing in and around the village and discovering its unique heritage to exploring the Langdale Valley and the surrounding countryside. It’s also well placed for visiting Lake Windermere and the lakeside resorts of Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere to the south and Keswick to the north.

Grasmere has a particularly rich literary history and was home to William Wordsworth, Thomas De Quincey and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The Wordsworth Museum and Art Gallery has an exceptional display of artefacts and allows visitors to step back in time to the era of the Romantic Movement. Next to the Museum is Dove Cottage, which was rented first to Wordsworth and then to Quincy, and is one of the village’s most popular landmarks. St Oswald’s church bears the graves of William Wordsworth and his wife; the tiny chapel dates back to the 14th Century.

Grasmere is ideally located for those who enjoy outdoor activities and the walk between the village and Langdale is one of Cumbria’s most popular trails. The walk takes you past Castle How, Lang How and Silver How and circumnavigates the Tarns of Codale and Craig. It captures the essence of the area beautifully and can also be enjoyed by bicycle. Due to the abundance of lakes in the area the fishing is exceptionally good as is the sailing and boating activities which are readily available for those who enjoy exploring on the water.
