April Cottage is situated in the peaceful South Lakeland hamlet of Staveley-in-Cartmel, just a stone’s throw away from Windermere and the National Trust park and gardens, Fellfoot. A former Besom store, this traditional whitewashed cottage is perfectly positioned to explore the popular Lakeland villages of Ambleside, Grasmere, Coniston and Keswick, as well as the quieter corners and beaches of the South Lakeland Peninsulas and West Lakes including, Grange-over-Sands, Cartmel and Arnside.

Just a short walk from April Cottage is Gummers Howe, one of the Lake District’s top ten picturesque picnic spots, whilst a host of woodland walks and cycle tracks lead directly from the cottage up into the surrounding fells to offer stunning panoramic views. The nearby, quaint market town of Ulverston, teeming with eclectic, independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants and with entertainment for all ages, is only 4 miles away by car. There are also days out at the Lakeside Aquarium, traditional steam train experience at Lakeside and Haverthwaite, and the popular South Lakeland Zoo which are also just a short drive away.

Beatrix Potter fans will find plenty to interest them at her home at Far Sawrey, near Hawkshead and at The World of Beatrix Potter at Bowness-on-Windermere, whilst art and poetry lovers will adore the delightful Dove Cottage at Grasmere, which was home to William Wordsworth, and the beautiful house and gardens of Brantwood at Coniston, which was home to John Ruskin. After a busy day splashing on the water in boats, hiking over the fells or cycling through Grizedale Forest, snuggle up by the fire and enjoy a cup of cocoa at April Cottage, or head out to the lovely pub close by for a sumptuous meal and drinks on the banks of the River Leven.
