Cumbrian Cottages

The Cumbrian Regional Specialist - Fantastic properties in the most favourable locations. No one knows Cumbria better!

The property is situated in the town of Windermere in the heart of the Lake District.

Windermere really is a town for all seasons, the surrounding scenery changing in colour throughout the year and what better place to sample a first or return visit to Lakeland than Alexandra Cottage. In the heart of this popular town, yet on a quiet residential street, the cottage enjoys a level setting so makes an ideal base for leisurely strolls around the interesting and recently pedestrianised streets, lined with interesting shops, cafes and bars.
Alexandra Cottage presents as a comfortable, traditional home, perfect for your Lakeland family holiday. Being on three floors, the cottage is perfect for families as the bedrooms are set out over two floors with two bathrooms so a good degree of privacy can be enjoyed by all. Park up, unload and you may never need to use your vehicle again as Windermere offers an assortment of transport options including train from the station, Mountain Bus Companies and Stagecoach incorporating the 599 lakes Rider open top and the famous Windermere Steamers which depart from the pier at Bowness, a gentle stroll from Alexandra Cottage.

We stay in the lakes numerous times a year for fell running, cycling & for family holidays. Unfortunately our stay at Alexandra Cottage wasn't what we are used to in the lakes. There was a musty, unlived in smell the minute we opened the front door. It's a very dated property which is ok but the oven took a long time to come on when we tried to use it. The biggest problem we encountered was the fact there is a street light right outside the property but all the curtains are really flimsy. At 3am it was as bright as the middle of the day which isn't ideal with small children in the house. Some black out curtains are badly needed. The bedroom wardrobes aren't fixed to the wall which we found out when our 7yr old went to open the wardrobe to put his clothes away!!!! Not safe! A place to hang coats would be useful too. The location is great for ease to amenities in Windermere although the directions we were sent are inaccurate. (It isn't the second turn off Ellerthwaite road, it's the first turn off Park Avenue!)

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the agency; Many thanks for your comments regarding Alexandra Cottage. We will investigate the issues you had regarding the musty smell. Regarding the curtains, the owner is currently looking at getting blackout blinds for those rooms. The oven does take a while to warm up, as is standard for this model. There is a walk-in cloakroom on the ground floor for coats. The wardrobe is free-standing, so not affixed to the wall; we will look into this and amend, if necessary. We’ll take a look at the directions and revise, if need be. Many thanks for your review.

Excellent location for exploring the lakes and you could easily walk into Windermere itself. We had 2 cars to park on the road but never had any trouble parking. Although the cottages decor is a little dated we felt it was excellent value for money, clean and spacious. We had a lovely holiday here and would stay at Alexandra cottage again

Really great cottage thank you and perfect location. Only downside was the kitchen and the oven/hob just a tad old Other than that lovely :-)
