Wordsworth Cottage, Grade II listed and formerly part of the estate once owned by Wordsworth’s grandfather, is an imaginatively designed barn conversion.

Wordsworth Cottage, Grade II listed and formerly part of the estate once owned by Wordsworth’s grandfather, is an imaginatively designed barn conversion tastefully incorporating original and introduced features. Light, warm and comfortable, it is situated in the peaceful village of Sockbridge and occupies a pleasant position with the benefit of open outlooks to both front and rear. There are several walks to be enjoyed across the fields and along the river directly from the cottage. Nearby, across a quiet no-through road, is a children’s play area. The local 17th-century pub, serving highly recommended food, is only a short walk. Conveniently positioned, 3 miles away, is the market town of Penrith with its variety of shopping and leisure facilities. Near Penrith, the family attraction of Rheged is great for all ages, comprising indoor and outdoor play areas, craft activities, a 3D cinema, art exhibitions, restaurant and gift and toy shops. There are swimming pools at Penrith and Keswick and, during the summer months, an open-air pool at nearby Askham.
The cottage is ideally situated for exploring both the northern and southern lakes and fells. Situated just 2½ miles from the beautiful scenery of Ullswater, you can enjoy a trip around the lake on a steamer and visit the impressive waterfall at Aira Force. A spectacular journey along the shores of Ullswater and over the Kirkstone Pass takes you to Lake Windermere. At the head of Derwentwater and 15 miles from Sockbridge, lies the town of Keswick with its lovely parks and selection of coffee, gift and outdoor shops. Shops 2 miles.

An awesome cottage to spend Christmas at! The owners decorated the place wonderfully for our arrival. It's located in a small village so amenities in the immediate vicinity are not great, but it's a perfect spot for numerous walks in the north lakes, and the countryside is stunning. The cottage itself has everything you need and is big. We would definitely stay here again!

Wordsworth Cottage is spacious, comfortable, well-equipped - and beautifully warm (very important as our stay was in early November). The location is quiet and private, and I'm sure that the garden is well-used in the summer months. The two grocery shops at Pooley Bridge, which is conveniently close, stock the basic items. Chestnut House also has a most interesting selection of gin, whisky, locally brewed beers etc. It got our Christmas shopping off to a good start! The staff are knowledgeable and charming. If you like to live dangerously, then be sure to visit Granny Dowbekin's too - it has a seriously tempting choice of cakes. Glenridding is only a short drive away; it is stunningly situated, is a good central point for many varied walks, and the lake and mountain views can be enjoyed afterwards from the comfort of the lounge at The Inn on the Lake. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Wordsworth Cottage, and are sure you will too.

We’ve stayed here many times and just love it. We like the fact that you’re near to all that the Lake District has to offer without being too remote. The house is just beautiful with plenty of room for a families with lots of space to chill out in. We enjoyed a trip to Buttermere and the weather was perfect for the time of year. We will definitely be returning and we’re looking forward to it already.

Great weather, great location. We probably wouldn't book this cottage agin as the upstairs wooden floor moved and made so much noise that if anyone moved around at night everyone else was woken up. Doesn't sound like much but it was a real pain especially as had a 10 month old with us.

Great cottage had everything we needed very well equipped and tastefully furnished. Beautiful gardens front and back sitting area in both ,lovely to sit in the sun and watch the many birds that visit. The village is small and has The Queens head pub that serves good food and has friendly staff. A good base for visiting the many great areas of the northern lakes .

Lovely charming spacious cottage in a great location. We really like the homely feel of this cottage and enjoyed having a wood burner. The children appreciated having some books/games and puzzles there, thank you
