Lovely comfortable well equipped cosy cottage within 10 minutes walk of the town itself and all its shops and amenities, only 15 minutes walk to the ferries. It's very rare we use our car when we stay here, it's also only a 5 minutes walk to a bus stop. There is private parking for three cars which is a bonus in a central location such as this. Only down side would be if you were disabled, there are several steep steps to get up to the house. Hopefully we will be returning here time and time again.

I've said I wouldn't stay here again and this is because of the numerous minor issues with the cottage. If they put these right, I'd love to go back. The cottage is in a perfect location for the restaurants and bars of Bowness, and there are plenty of them. With some dog friendly restaurants that serve superb food. Unfortunately there are issues that affected our stay. Some of these are a real safety issue, and should be addressed as a matter of urgency. The issues that I feel need urgent attention are as follows; • The back door is difficult to lock and unlock. In an emergency could be a serious issue. • The smoke alarm battery is missing on the stairs. • There is a smell throughout the cottage. We put a cheap air freshener which helped. • The cleaning and house keeping is dreadful. There is issues such as no milk tray in the fridge. Dirty work surfaces in the kitchen. Dirty oven and backing trays. Dirty dishwasher (it did help when we bought some quality tablets and ran them through it). Chipped crockery. Stained towels. A previous occupants food left in the freezer. And within minutes our dog had found a dirty sock from a previous occupant. Now there is comment in the visitors book that the cleaner left stating she didn't have time to do a deep clean. This is not helpful. There is one more issue that caused us to leave early as I couldn't stand it any more. The smoke from people smoking next door coming through in to the living room. It played he'll with me asthma. In conclusion, great location, nice looking cottage but you don't need to look long before you find issues.

We loved this place, very comfortable and well equipped. Warm and cosy but plenty of space to spread out in. There was so much to do locally we didn't feel the need to go very far from the cottage and loved that it was so quiet and peaceful in spite of being right in the middle of Bowness.

Location excellent and lay out of cottage very agreeable . On arrival was very welcoming , lights on , warm , cosy and a bottle of bubbly on table. However the premium price is not reflected in the finer details. Numerous customers have commented on defects that are still not addressed and some are a considerable safety issue such as the bathroom sticking when closed. The dish washer does not clean , no bottle rack in fridge , front door difficult to lock. Unfortunately on opening the oven to use on our first evening all the oven trays were dirty . Totally unacceptable at this price. Bed linen and towels were so old that the white was now an unpleasant grey , luckily we had taken our own and used these instead. This cottage claims to be dog friendly and we do appreciate that no all people will find this an issue But on arrival we found a note saying pets not allowed upstairs. If this is a requirement then it should have been in the description of the cottage so that pet owners can make an informed choice as to whether to stay. Please don’t get us wrong we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and if the above points were corrected we would stay again if in the area , but the owners need to remedy the issues if they wish to continue charging this premium amount

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Howe cottage, Windermere. It has everything you need in the cottage and walking distance to everything around. The only downfall were a couple of things for me, 1) the door is so hard to undo that it’s a fire hazard 2) would have loved the garden to be enclosed as my dog is not recall trained and would leg it and 3) there’s a smell in the living room, I don’t know what but it’s not a dog smell as being a dog owner I could cope with that but we just couldn’t work out where it was coming from. We’ve already discussed staying again so would recommend 😊

The cottage is beautiful, and the location is stunning. The kitchen needs some attention but this did not detract from our holiday. The garden is lovely, but it is not secure.

Excellent location. Good size and well equipped. The outside of the property needs some TLC. The garden furniture had seen better days and it needed weeding and a good brush of the whole area. It was lovely to sit and have a drink outside so tidying it up would make a big difference. The garden isn’t secure for dogs so if your dogs wander then it’s an issue, ours don’t so it was fine. We enjoyed our stay here. Oh take an air freshener too - it’s a dog friendly cottage remember!

Would stay there again, the only draw back was the lack of secure outside space for dogs, it was advertised as dog friendly.

Maintenance is required in and outside the Cottage. It smelt of dog that is the main reason for the low score. Fridge Freezer dirty, Fridge no tray for milk. Would not rate this a four star more like a two. Main plus Location.
