We had a lovely stay at Cragg Cottage. The cottage was lovely and small, cosy and quaint which made it the perfect romantic get away. The cottage is perfect for two (+ a dog). The open fire was a particularly welcome touch; we bought wood from a local farm (literally 30 seconds walk away!) and enjoyed listening to music with a glass of wine whilst cosied up in front of the roaring fire every night. The cottage has all the amenities you need for a comfortable and cosy stay away. Location wise Bouth is a lovely quiet village with great walks on the doorstep, a fab little local pub (1 minute walk from the cottage), a farm selling wood and fresh eggs and another farm selling fresh milk and boasting a tea shop. Bouth is a short drive to Ulverston, a fab little market town with nice pubs, cafes and shops, a Laurel and Hardy museum and a fabulous Art Deco cinema (a must!). It takes just over an hour to get to Wasdale where you can take on Scafell Pike, about half an hour to get to Ambleside/Windermere/ Kendal and 20 minutes to Coniston. We felt that Bouth offered the perfect mix of being a secluded and peaceful oasis without being too far from the main routes up to the lakes and the mountains or down to the coast. The final point to note is how great Jean, the owner of the cottage is. Cragg Cottage is next door to Jean’s own property and so she was on hand to offer assistance and friendly tips where requested which was really helpful but she also remained very respectful of our privacy and was not intrusive in the slightest. We cannot thank Jean enough for being such a great host and look forward to returning to Cragg Cottage in the future.

Nice small cottage unfortunately the sofa was uncomfortable and the bed was not brilliant. The heater in the bathroom did not work. We used the hoover but it was pretty useless - had to remove the filter and shake it. Kitchen was well stocked with equipment

The cottage was just lovely. Close to some great towns but remote enough to feel you are getting away from it all. The garden is great secluded enough for coffee and breakfast to take in the fresh morning. Lunch, dinner or a nice evening drink as the sun goes down. I would highly recommend. Well worth the road trip up from Essex. A good selection of walks close by were great. A mix of hilly, good views and more flat fields. The local pub, great food and dog formerly. Localvintage diary farm for fresh milk. Local fresh eggs minutes away for breakfast.

Immaculate 5* stay in a rural setting “ a gem “ Cragg Cottage has it all and more besides. Warm welcome from Mrs Read was just the start of a wonderful week. This lovely cottage has everything you need. Spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable, a credit to its owners. We absolutely loved the enclosed garden which we found hard to come by on other cottages as most weren’t secluded. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this cottages warmth. The weather was fabulous and the patio and garden are sun traps. Ideal for exploring the southern lakes.15 min drive to Bowness on Windermere which is thoroughly recommended.

Lovely old cottage, really well located to explore the lakes. Little bit smaller than expected and a bit overlooked by the owners property next door.
