Had a lovely week away at Laurel cottage. Everything we needed was provided and the location was great for walking our dogs. We used it as a base and as well as doing local walks straight from the door, we got out to Coniston, Newby Bridge and Grizedale forest for more great walks.

Had a great time, fishing the river that ran through the garden. Very good location for day trips to the lakes. Very peaceful. Local amenities a bit of a let down

The cottage was comfortable and the garden was stunning with a stream running along the bottom. However internally the cottage is now very tired with wallpaper peeling off the walls in some rooms and the kitchen being old and past its best. All the windows were open when we arrived but this did not stop the cottage from having some lingering smells. There were also dried up bars of soap left in the bathroom complete with someone else's hairs which we could have done without. Despite this we still had a good holiday. It should also be worth noting that a property is being built next door with scaffolding compromising privacy. We were not made aware of this on booking and had to raise the issue of late evening noises on the site.

Cosy cottage with a great garden. The village had only one pub that allowed dogs but they didn't do food. The nearest shop was in Millom. The Herdwick did great pizzas and was dog friendly. Was a relaxing base for days out. 10 minutes walk from beach and lovely walks from doorstep.

Second visit here and it’s lovely ticks all boxes, amenities close enough and the river a delight. Perfect for 2 and 2 dogs . We love the area and next time will look to stay more northerly, if only we could pick the cottage up and take it with us. There’s a beach nearby and a nice walk from the door round the lagoon. Only 2 slight gripes it was excessively hot , could be countered by opening windows. The grass needed cutting as it was difficult to effectively clean up after the dogs. I would however recommend the place and another visit cannot be ruled out.

Had a wonderful stay at the Laurel. Was pleasantly surprised how big the bungalow and outside space was - definitely value for money. The photos don't do it justice. No neighbours. There is a large enclosed garden at the front leading down to the tidal river which my dog loved paddling in, the scenery around is beautiful - rolling mountains. There is a massive paved patio at the back with ample seated furniture and what used to be a stable. My son liked to play badminton at the back as it was so sheltered. It was lovely to eat outside. Lots of crockery, glasses, cups, and knives and forks which is great for the dishwasher. Even supplied lots of dishwasher tablets. Easy to use oven/grill and microwave. Chest freezer is in Utility room outside. Kids were happy as the WiFi worked. Shower was great. Towels were provided and tea towels which was great. The Cottage is very dog friendly, they even provided doggie bowls and towels which I thought was a lovely touch. Even greater to see a washing machine along with a decent washing line and some pegs with washing basket. Alot of time you never get the extras. Lots of walks straight out of your front door which we liked. The walk to beach was less than 10 mins - if you went up the road opposite lead you to Hodbarrow lagoon, lighthouse, ski bar and beach if you walked along main road you came to dunes and walked further you came to a lovely sandy beach very deserted. If you like peace and quiet and don't like the crowds - this is the place for you. Note the beach is part of Duddon Estuary. The ski bar at the local caravan park only does food Thursday - Sunday, Chinese is shut on a Tuesday but Mr Wok's Tai takeaway was tasty. Fish and chip shop was excellent. There is a large Tesco at Millom, post office in Haverigg sells your daily newspaper and there is a Londis corner shop there too ( both 10 mins walk). Would definitely recommend the Laurel and would like to go again. Many thanks.
