When we chose The Cottage for our holiday we were looking for the location, which was already familiar to us, space for five or six adults and that we could take our old dog with us. We found all that at the Cottage as expected. Mr and Mrs Richardson, the owners, were very pleasant and welcoming without being intrusive. The kitchen at the Cottage is well equipped with far more than we would ever use but it felt very reassuring that should we have wanted to prepare a gourmet meal we could have done so. I would like to explain the reason for marking down a little on the overall scores. The Cottage was mostly clean and well cared for however it felt that things like skirting boards, tops of pictures and such like would benefit from more attention. Having said that, it is on a working farm which I know full well attracts dust etc so I do not want to suggest a dirty environment. What I want to emphasise was the beautifully laundered bedding and the comfort of the beds. The local amenities I marked down because in a rural setting one would expect to travel but I felt I could not put ten. However, only a few minutes away is a family bakery some excellent local stores and hostelries. A previous review mentioned the dead ivy on the side of the house but what a wonderful habitat that is for birds nesting. We loved sitting in the delightful garden whilst watching the activity of different birds hopping in and out at various times of the day and evening. For us The Cottage provided a peaceful escape for a week, where we felt comfortable and at ease.

We had a very enjoyable week at The Cottage. Well located for many forest walks and walking trails, Wast Water is beautiful and the steam railway well worth a visit. The Cottage was very comfortable and well equipped with a delightful garden to relax in. Would definitely stay here again.

Really lovely cottage and the owners are lovely people too. Fresh milk and duck eggs in the morning! Great local amenities but for us it was a little far from the places we were visiting. Great location if you're only looking to explore a small part of the lakes. We went everywhere so there was a lot of driving. Cottage comfortable but the power shower needs more power. Beds were a tad uncomfortable for us but that's very much each to their own. Loved listening to all the local wildlife and sitting with the fire burning in the evening. Kitchen very well equipped, everything we needed was there.

Great place to stay, quiet and relaxing, well equipped, owners very nice, if taking teenagers the Internet isn't very good.

The furniture was uncomfortable and smelt quite badly of damp dogs. In addition the cottage was advertised as having wi-fi. This could only be accessed if you were standing in the garage or sometimes if you stood on the stairs. Not very good at all.I think a simple booster or a relocation of the hub would solve this issue. I would also recommend that the owners invest in a more modern television set as the current one is not suitable to connect with HDMI or USB digital equipment. The owners were friendly and welcomed us so there is no problem there.
