Overall we enjoyed our week in Glenridding, but we found Galena a little unloved and not very welcoming. The drive is certainly and issue. I would advise anyone who does not have a 4x4 not to attempt the final section. My car was fine all week at the bottom of the concrete section. On entering the cottage we found it to be cold and a little humid downstairs, this I guess the downside of its woodland location, which of course is also a benefit. Upstairs was fine. The week we stayed was warm and sunny. Winter may be ok if heating was on, a wet summer week may be a bit gloomy. Garden is a little over run, patio we had to sweep chairs and tables were spread all over the place. Imagine our surprise one morning, as we were eating breakfast, two men appeared on the patio from around the house. They turned out to be Gardeners. They did a bit of tiding up, but we still had to clean the patio after they left. Whilst the cottage was basically clean, toilets not great, why if you have to leave by 9.00am and can't arrive until 17.00 were the floors still wet when we arrived? Finally my last moan. Why no welcome pack? Loaf of Bread, may be a pint of milk, or a bottle of wine? We have rent many cottages over the last 35 years, this was a first. What we did get. on the kitchen table, was a reminder to leave at 9.00 on the day of departure. Welcome to Galena indeed. Despite all the above we did enjoyed our stay, but we adore the lakes and Glenridding is certainly a pleasant pace to stay. Galena is nicely out side the village, quite close to a busy road, but we were not bothered by this, it's mainly during the day and we were not there. Value for money is ok as this is a well equipped cottage and the owner has left good detailed instruction on how every thing works, and obvious thing to do which rarely happens. I would question that it sleeps 6 as the third bed is a pull out, but as we were just two this was not a problem. I would suggest some black out blinds out side. In June/July there there is around 17 hours of daylight, this was an issue for my wife who is a light sleeper, no pun intended. I am sorry to seem so dissatisfied, but please think about what the cottage seems like on arrival, first impressions are so important and we got off to a bad start.

Good location for walking the area we did Helvellyn, high Street,st'sundaycrag, and the lake walk. Clean enough, garden a bit unloved but ok for us, easy to get to from the m6 about 20 mins sat all on its own so peaceful road below can be noisy at times But overall very good.

Lovely cottage off the beaten track but within easy walking distance of the village. The driveway leading to the cottage is very steep and may not be suitable for all car types, although there is space to park slightly away from the property. There are also approximately 15 steep steps to get to the front door. There is a decent selection of kitchen equipment, however some items needed rewashing before use. For me personally, I found the double bed rather hard and uncomfortable. Loved having a real fire which made the cottage very cosy and homely. There are some lovely views of the surrounding hills and in winter you can also see the lake. Overall I was very pleased with facilities available and thought the property represented great value for money. Would definitely look to book again if staying in the area, however would request that heating was operating prior to arrival as it was extremely cold and took a while to warm the house through.
