Fir Tree Cottage is perfect for a romantic break away, set in the magnificent Northumberland National Park.

Set in the heart of Northumberland and only a few miles from the Scottish Borders, these two bijoux style holiday cottages offer a cosy and welcoming base for exploring this beautiful and unspoilt area. Ideal for star gazing on a clear evening as the area has been awarded a Gold Tier international award for the largest Dark Sky Park in Europe. Fir Tree Cottage and Stable Cottage are semi detached on the edge of the Kielder Forest, set separately from the other holiday homes on site. The private site has stunning walks from the door and welcomes you and your pets, making this an ideal location for couples wishing to make the most of the outdoor activities. An amazing drive through the forest will take you to Kielder Water (a 4 wheel drive vehicle needed, closed during the winter season), or a slightly longer route will take you on a scenic route around the entire reservoir. A perfect base to explore the Northumberland National Park and Kielder Forest and observatory, ideal for exploring the whole of this friendly and unspoilt county. Otterburn is 9 miles with a beautiful Pub Le Petite Château, a mill shop and general dealers. Bellingham and Jedburgh are of around equal distance and offer amenities to suit everyone. A day trip to Alnwick with its famous castle and the Northumberland Heritage Coast, peppered with castles and beaches, makes a fine day out. Hadrians Wall is is steeped in history with Roman forts and museums along the way. A great location for those looking to explore this friendly and unspoilt county. Shop 9 miles, pub and restaurant 4 miles.

    Just spent a lovely week at Fir Tree Cottage. Booked primarily because they allow dogs but also because the price was very good! The cottage is very bijoux, but it is comfortable and cosy. The kitchen is modern and well equipped which was good for us as we cooked most nights and the bathroom is clean, with a really powerful shower. The bed was a little bit firm for us but still relatively comfortable. There is also a lovely little walled garden which would be nice to sit out in the summer but was perfect for us to let the dog out in the morning or evening. The garden is secure, with no where for the dog to get out which was great because our dog is still a puppy and easily escapes! The site is beautiful and so so quiet! There are lots of walks to do from the site, including the Pennine Way. It is quite isolated; there's no wifi (this didn't bother me as it was an excuse to ignore work emails but I think if you're desperate you can get on the wifi at reception), very little phone signal and the nearest shops and pubs are a few miles drive, but these weren't a problem for us because we like to feel properly away. There's a small shop in Otterburn but there are also bigger supermarkets at Hawick, Jedburgh and Alnwick which are all around 30 mins- 1 hour away if you need to stock up. Overall, its a great base to explore the area; like I said, lots of walks to do from the site but also, if don't mind driving there's loads and loads of things to do and see. Very happy, would definitely book again!

    Excellent holiday accommadation for two and a dog. Lovely little garden, and very clean modern open plan living area and kitchen. Ideal ensuite bedroom. Good value in a quiet, but not remote area of natural beauty, but not for night club lovers. Lovely lodge owners, who were very helpful, friendly, but not at all intrusive. Would definetly book again.
