Description

With easy access to both the coast and Hadrian’s Wall country, this cottage lies in a pretty village setting.

This charming, semi-detached holiday cottage is set in the ‘picture postcard’ village of Hedley on the Hill, only 15 minutes from Corbridge in the south of Hadrian’s Wall country, in a very pretty part of this friendly, unspoilt county. The views from the village across the Tyne Valley are spectacular, and the property has a rear sitting-out area to relax in. This is a charming base from which to tour the many attractions in the area, or make a holiday out of a visit for a special event, such as the Great North Run or a university graduation ceremony. Corbridge is a historic, pretty little market town with charming pubs and tea rooms, and the area is perfect for cyclists and walkers - the whole of Hadrian’s Wall can be followed on a special trail and many Roman forts can be visited along the route. Head to Newcastle with its museums and shopping, bustling Hexham or historic Durham. Sample some of the local produce in the many delis and farm shops around the area. Roam free in rolling countryside, visiting quaint villages or head to the city and see the Angel of the North, or visit BALTIC and other museums in Newcastle. Hexham is dominated by a medieval abbey (built of stone from Hadrian’s Wall) and the Old Gaol depicts the Border Reivers’ story. Durham is within easy reach by car. Don’t miss the Heritage coast, less than an hour away, by heading north and sampling the many castles and miles of golden sandy beaches. An ideal location from which to explore this wonderful county from inland to the coast. The local real ale pub opposite has won numerous awards for its food, including British Gastropub of the Year and a North East England Tourism Gold Award. Beach 25 miles. Shop 3½ miles, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

An excellent cottage in a lovely village although you would need a car to explore the area.

Great cottage, very quiet and comfortable. Spacious for four. The only downside is that the shower-room (no bath) is very small and the shower not very powerful.

We had a lovely, quiet, cosy time in the Cottage over Christmas. Rosie was very welcoming and we appreciated having some food essentials provided. Kitchen fully equipped to cope with Xmas meals and family visiting. The small fridge wasn’t a problem, as the porch became the drinks cabinet. It is well located for visiting lovely places, both in Durham and Northumberland.

We booked this cottage as it was ideal for the location of the 2017 Cycling National Hill Climb Finals that were taking part on Hedley on the Hill. As my son was taking part in this event we needed a base nearby. We were given a warm greeting by Rosie the owner who showed us around the Cottage on our arrival. The facilities were perfect and with the added bonus of some nice goodies we settled down to a pleasant stay. After the Cycling event we stayed on for the rest of the week and visited some lovely areas of Northumberland, an area we really enjoy. I can truly recommend this cottage for its location, its facilities and warmth not only of the place but the owner.

This is a lovely cottage and the owner is really helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and would return. There is only a pub in the village, albeit one that is in the good food guide,so no amenities without a drive. It's in a great location for getting to other places and is so peaceful so ideal for chilling out.

we enjoyed our time at the cottage. very quiet and comfortable. I personally found the beds to be too soft but that is to do with my back problems. The sink in the second bedroom ensuite needs a plug but again a minor thing. We loved the location and found Mrs Lewis to be most helpful.

My wife and I self-cater 6 to 8 times a year and this is possibly the best property in which we have ever stayed. The owner greeted us soon after arrival and was extremely helpful. The cottage is very well equipped, warm, spacious and spotlessly clean. The location was quiet despite being opposite the village pub - which was handy! We would definitely recommend The Cottage - there was nothing to fault.
