Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland (and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts) is a popular visitor attraction, or visit the Alnwick Gardens, a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including a grand cascade waterfall and poison garden where guests can dine in the restaurant of the largest tree house in Europe.

The glorious wide expanse of golden sands at Embleton is only 5 miles away. Holly Cottage offers easy access to explore the beautiful Northumberland Heritage Coast, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, to the east, and the wild expanses of the heather-capped Cheviot Hills to the west. Lovely cottage, 2 bathrooms, well equipped but bijou. Well equipped although a microwave oven was a missing item. Welcome wood burner for chilly evenings.

Really lovely cottage. Was one of the best we have ever stayed at. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, but not intrusive. So close to a beautiful, dog friendly beach. Good connections to all the major attractions of the area. Small garden was very useful for the dogs and for sitting in as it was so sunny. We would definitely consider rebooking if we return to the area.

Cottage was small but comfortable and had everything you need. The property is ideally placed for visiting all of Northumberland and is only a 20 minute walk to an outstanding beach and the Northumberland coastal walk. The village of Longhoughton has a well stocked Co-Op for essentials and Alnwick is only 10 minutes away by car with all of its facilities. We really enjoyed our stay, we found the road noise a little intrusive in the morning with people going to work and the school run. But we come from a quite part of the world, others from more built up areas may not notice it at all. Friendly owner who did not intrude but was very helpful if needed.

Excellent few days in the winter. A lot of amenities closed for the season. Cottage was warm and cosy. I would add a coffee (wine and telegraph) table with the sofas. Sue and John were friendly next door. There is a coop in the village but not much else nearby, but its not far to Alnwick (lidl and morrisons). It took just over an hour to drive to once brewed and Hadrians wall. About 28miles to berwick and a couple more to the scotland sign. Eyemouth was a working harbour, with a pub in the car park near the beach where you could watch the waves crashing in whilst sheltered. Would like to return in the summer. Shame we are working and 400 miles away!
