You will enjoy some time spent at Cragside a wonderful NT property packed full of quirky inventions with stunning gardens in spring and summer, the first house to be powered by hydro-electricity. Parking is free in Rothbury, but with the perfect location of the cottage, you can leave the car behind and walk all over to explore enjoying lunches or evening meals in the local hostelries. A few miles drive will take you over to Alnwick, home to the Duke of Northumberland where he resides in the famous castle which is open to the public and was used in some Harry Potter and Downton Abbey scenes.
A day trip over to the Northumberland National Park is well worth the effort in any season and Kielder Water Riverside has plenty of stopping-off picnic areas for the family.
