A lovely time away..... very peaceful and secluded position just north of Wooler. Excellent pub (10 min walk), excellent food and service. 30 mins to the beautiful coast and dunes. We were there for a trip for my Dad (aged 85) to track down any living relatives - not many ! But we managed lovely trips to Bamburgh, Seahouses, Newtown (Ship Inn), Berwick, Alnwick and Edinburgh. Also Scottish Border villages. I have to say that we all slept very well, even the extremely vocal dawn chorus was "blotted out" by day two...! Excellent comms from the owner and the local caretaker, we can't fault anything. Go for the local produce (excellent local beers and cheese) ! Enjoy !!

Lovely house. Fantastic location. Uncomfortably cold on arrival and all of the first evening until heating kicked in overnight ☹️. Log burner gave no heat at all. Nearly came home as so cold!! Just needed a few hours with heating on before arrival. Once warm, no faults whatsoever - extremely happy with our stay. 😊

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I am sorry that you found the house cold on arrival, however you may recall that this was a last minute booking. My cleaning supervisor went out as soon as the booking was confirmed i.e. on the day you arrived and turned the system on. However its a big house and so takes a while to warm up. The log burner has a tremendous heat output for those who want to use it, so I'm surprised despite this you found the house cold.

lounge seating worn out and uncomfortable, could not use so sat in kitchen all weekend. Dirty oven and dishwasher. The only local pub did not allow dogs, this should be mentioned in the write up. Problems with heating and hot water reported to owner but no action was taken.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are disappointed that you did not enjoy our cottage, taking each of the points in turn: The sofas are low and soft, some people like them this way, some don't, they are the same as the ones we have in our main house so that is obviously how we prefer them. It is not correct to infer that there is no other seating in the lounge and that you were required to use the kitchen because you found the sofas not to your taste. It is a very large lounge and has a large table and 8 chairs in addition to the sofas, a quick look at the pictures on the website will confirm this. I asked my cleaning company about the dishwasher and cooker being dirty and they believe that their quality control ensures that this should not be the case. In any event they are continuing to check and clean both devices on each handover. I contacted the local pub about their policy with regard to dogs and the landlord confirmed that though they have a separate area outside where dogs may be tethered, they are not allowed inside; he believes this is appropriate to balance the desires of all his customers. I was not aware of this policy but it is really outside the remit of what should be on the website. You reported the issue with the hot water heating to me on the Saturday evening of your stay, indicating that it was failing to heat properly. I was surprised we could not resolve this over the phone since we have two separate hot water heating systems, though it is incorrect to say that I then did nothing. I apologised for what was happening, explained that it would be very difficult to get someone to come out on a Sunday and I immediately contacted my plumber, he went round on Monday morning and identified that the tank thermostat was misreading and needed to be replaced, though he reset things to work until a new one was obtained. The backup immersion heater switch had failed and needed replacement (also done). As indicted, it is highly unusual that both water heating systems failed at the same time and I am very sorry that this happened. The central heating was unaffected by all of this.
