Set in a rural village location, yet only 5 miles from Cockermouth and on the fringe of the Lake District National Park, this original 1952 Pullman railway carriage offers a truly unique experience. Magnificently restored and furnished to a high standard, the level of detail and care that has gone into bringing this wonderful piece of history back to life is evident from you moment you board.

In the 1950’s, the British Pullman was a great tradition and afforded only by the wealthy, it was seen as a symbol of status and opulence. Fast forward to the 21st century, and you can re-live that journey thanks to the thought that has gone into turning this disused railway carriage into a characterful holiday home to remember. Climb aboard and you are greeted with a living area with comfortable seating, flatscreen TV and a DVD player. You are surrounded by large windows which overlook the River Marron, and it is complete with a quirky bar, so don’t forget the fizz!

There is a contemporary kitchen with all the facilities you need to prepare a hearty breakfast or perhaps a romantic meal for two. Heading along the carriage you will find an original dining carriage with bench seating, just like it was historically, even down to the detail of the traditional luggage in the overhead racks. There is a cabin with a dressing table where you can store your bags and hang your clothes. Finally, a stunning bedroom with large antique feature bed and en-suite bathroom makes this carriage not only unique, but an amazing and memorable experience. Step out of the side of the carriage as though onto the platform, and you will find raised decking with bistro seating and wonderful views over the river. There is also a stunning walk along the river on the private land of the property for you to enjoy.

Couples will love this unique experience and particularly the convenient location to explore your surroundings. Situated in the picturesque village of Ullock, which is located on the fringe of the Lake District National Park between Cockermouth and Ennerdale, it makes a great starting point to explore the western Lake District and coast, and has a couple of pubs and restaurants nearby.

Your nearest lake is Loweswater which is just 3 miles away. Loweswater is surrounded by amazing fells, stunning scenery and cycle and walking routes, as well as easy access to arguably some of the most picturesque areas of the Lake District National Park, including Crummock and Buttermere. If you want rugged adventure or just a peaceful walk taking in the flora and fauna, you have a beautiful area to explore.

You are just 5 miles away from Cockermouth with its abundance of bars, restaurants, coffee houses, independent shops and attractions. Visit Wordsworth House for a spot of culture, or maybe Jennings Brewery beneath the castle walls offering tasting tours. Kirkgate Arts provides a cinema and theatre performances. If you are looking for family fun, a great day out can be had at The Lake District Wildlife Park at Bassenthwaite, 13 miles, with over 100 species of animals at Bassenthwaite. You can also try Go Ape at Whinlatter Forest, 10 miles, a tree top adventure and also home to some brilliant cycling trails.
