We had a very relaxing, comfortable week at High Moor, with a lovely welcome from the owners. The cottage is really cosy and spacious. Bird feeders placed outside the lounge window gave us a wonderful display of blue, great and coal tits, collared doves and a woodpecker. Our cockapoo was fascinated by it too. Nearby villages offer such things as a geological trail, dog-friendly pubs and a gem of a bakery. It’s also fairly easy to drive to Hadrian’s Wall and the Lakes. We took a train trip to Carlisle from Appleby too. We’re looking forward to going back to High Moor.

Really cute cottage, warm and cosy. Loved the little log burner, and grateful for the big basket of logs provided. We were able to purchase more from the owners, £3 for a big basket which was handy. Central heating for during the day was very efficient and you can control yourself. The cottage has lovely furnishings and décor and was spotlessly clean. Location wise, it is about 1km down a farm track, not too difficult for a normal car. Nearest pub seemed to be closed down, maybe for refurb, but if this is important to you I would check before booking. There's another lovely pub in Dufton, about 2.5 miles that was open and there's several in Appleby, about 2 miles. Nearest shops are in Appleby, a sweet market town, with lovely little deli, fruit and veg shop, gift shops and usual coop and spar. The cottage is centrally located for visiting lakes, we went to Ullswater, and the Yorkshire dales. There are places to walk from the end of the farm track but we had so much rain we didn't manage to get out much. We had a great rest and enjoyed watching the woodpeckers and other birds on the feeders. The owners live next door and were lovely but not intrusive. They provided us with wine and chocs which were much appreciated, thank you. Would definitely recommend the cottage to friends and family.
