Ainstable itself has a popular bar and restaurant only a few hundred yards away. The nearby village of Armathwaite also benefits from two pubs with excellent reputations for food and drink. Armathwaite is also a stop on the famous Carlisle-Settle train journey renowned for some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. If you would rather explore those landscapes on foot though there is plenty of great walking in the area. Shop and pub 1½ miles, restaurant ¼ mile.
