This beautiful holiday cottage is in the perfect location. It overlooks two lakes with a pair of nesting swans, has a lovely yard with outdoor seating, bird feeders that attract local birds and a resident peacock family. It is an easy drive into Dalton-in-Furness with a great Coop grocery store and several excellent restaurants. It's just off the A590 that takes you nearly anywhere you want to go. We visited Coniston, Hill Top Farm and Hawkshead, Holker Hall, Sizergh Castle, Dalton Abbey and took the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and the ferry boat to Bowness. We enjoyed Hartley's Cafe in Dalton a few times and really liked the Ilex Restaurant at Holker Hall. Lots of good places to eat in the area. Wonderful views from the living room window and throughout the entire area. The only down side to the trip was rain absolutely every day but it was only a hard rain once so we soldiered on with our sightseeing. The washing machine refused to work, but Jim kindly offered to do our laundry for us so that was not a problem and I'm sure it's fixed by now. They are delightful people and I would highly recommend their cottage. It was particularly fun to sit eating dinner watching the little peacock family come home to roost each evening. You do need a car as it's pretty far out of town. To us that was an advantage. We wanted the peace and quiet.

We had a lovely week staying at Nell's. The cottage has every thing you could possibly need - in miniature and is perfect for two. It was a delight to sit in the conservatory dining room and watch the profusion of wild birds on the feeders and in the trees. There is a lovely table and seating area outside which we would have liked to have been able to use but, alas the weather wasn't good enough. The cottage is very private, with no one passing by or overlooking you. There is plenty of room to park and walks from the gate. The owners Joan and Jim were great, just next door if you needed them or leaving you to it if you didn't. There was nothing not to like and we hope to re-visit soon. We can definitely recommend Nell's as the place for two to stay in the South Lakes.
