A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

One of two barn conversions with exposed beams and trusses. Excellent facilities for families including a tennis court and pool table.

Floodlit tennis court / Can be combined with W7922 for party of 28

Nestling in the grounds of a large farmhouse in a rural position, this delightful single storey barn conversion has been skilfully renovated retaining exposed beams and trusses. The holiday property has an advantage of catering for large parties with a connecting door to the adjacent property (W7922) increasing the accommodation to 28, which makes it ideal for a large family get together. It has shared facilities with a floodlit all weather surface tennis court (equipment not provided), a small pool table and if desired, a catering service (arranged direct with the owner). This perfect location is on the edge of the tiny village of Somersal Herbert, approximately 9 miles south of the popular Derbyshire market town of Ashbourne and convenient for visiting The Potteries and Alton Towers, one of the largest theme parks in the country. Enjoy Derwent Crystal Factory at Shawcroft, the Antiques and Collectors Centre at Bakewell, the ’Heights of Abraham’ cable car rides and caves at Matlock Bath. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

All on ground floor: Living room with sofa bed and beams. Dining room/kitchen. Utility room. 4 bedrooms: 2 double, one with en-suite shower room with toilet. 2 twin, one with en-suite bathroom with toilet, one with additional pull-out single. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

This is a big, spacious place. It was just right for what we needed. Comfortable but not precious, well-equipped and easy to live in. It's not particularly charming - it's very functional - but we didn't want anything too fussy so it worked just fine. If I was exploring the Peak District I might choose somewhere further north, but we needed to be close to Burton upon Trent so we needed to be in this location.

The Coach House has good spacious family areas and outdoor space. The decor in these areas was ok but needs refreshing The bedrooms and bathrooms were more like staying in a Youth Hostel The bedrooms were very small and very simply furnished. The carpets were stained. The decor in the bathrooms was very dated and tired. All the bathrooms need at least refreshing with new grouting and sealant. We were left only three rolls of toilet tissue ( two part used!) for nine people for a week and only three black bags for rubbish. It's these kind of little things that make a difference to a comfortable stay especially when there are no local facilities nearby. We used the BBQ which is a good size for the house but had to clean it from a previous use first and trek into Ashbourne for coals and lighter. This could have been provided at very little cost. If you need to use wifi when staying in the Coach House please note it is very weak and at times not available. It is shared with the other holiday cottages. A simple solution would be for each house to have its own rooter. We noted this has been mentioned in the visitor book many times and could be sorted simply. Overall we had a good time at the Coach House because we had our family together having flown in from abroad or travelled to be there from various parts of the country. We intend to do this at least twice a year but would not book into the Coach House again.
