The Barn is conveniently placed for days out walking or wandering around local towns and villages. Freebirch is ideal for discovering the beauty of the Peak District, with some of the country’s finest stately homes. Chatsworth House is 3 miles away, based less than a 10-minute drive to Baslow village centre which has a selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. Entering Chatsworth Estate is through Baslow village green. Why not walk into Chatsworth Park? Enjoy its rolling fields and woodland. Chatsworth House, a fine stately home, has one of the most magnificent gardens in Britain, and is the official residence of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Next to Chatsworth House is a farm with a children’s adventure park, the farm shop sells the estates produce at nearby Pilsley.
Bakewell is close by with its picturesque river flowing through its centre and also its bustling market day every Monday. Eat out in one of the many restaurants or cafes and then hire a bike and cycle down the Monsal Trail.
Five minutes down the road from Bakewell, en-route to Matlock, is Haddon Hall, with beautiful cottage-style gardens the historic stately home well-known for being used as the setting for the film ’Jane Eyre’.
