Description

This is an ideal choice for couples looking for a romantic break, close to the picturesque Peak District National Park.

These three delightful cottages can be found in a sleepy village, down a small country lane, on the owner’s non-working farm. As former barns, they have been sympathetically converted retaining many beautiful features such as exposed beams and exposed stone walls. Tawny Owl Barn and The Pig Sty each boast a hot tub (at cost), and for that added sense of relaxation, dressing gowns, towels and slippers are provided within the cost.
Just 10 minutes outside the Peak District National Park, the properties are surrounded by farmland and fields, with the nearby Linacre Reservoirs and woods providing many walking trails amongst a carpet of bluebells in the spring months. The surrounding area holds a whole host of attractions with the town of Chesterfield, famous for its crooked spire, just 15 minutes away. The magnificent Chatsworth House and ever popular market town of Bakewell can be reached in just 20 minutes. Matlock with its cable car, the fascinating plague village of Eyam and Hathersage famous for its links to Robin Hood and the Eyre family, are all accessible in under half an hour. Shop 2½ miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
Tawny Owl Barn (ref 18220), The Pig Sty (ref W44184) and The Old Cow Shed (ref UKC2608) can be booked together to accommodate up to 11 guests.

We felt let down that there was no enclosed court yard area as advertised to let the dogs out. However despite this we would still book again as it was a lovely property and well located .We did notice a few carpet stains which needed attention , but found it to be very clean. The welcome pack was a let down as all it consisted of was two small bottles of shampoo /conditioner and two tiny bars of soap. Normally welcome packs include a small selection of groceries.

A quiet rural location with plenty of dog walks- 2 dog friendly pubs within 1/2 mile. Plenty of space inside. Parking easy. Very well situated to visit many of Derbyshire's attractions. Good views across the surrounding countryside. Looking forward to a return visit.

Lovely cottage, spacious and clean, brilliant poweful shower! Lovely position at he edge of the villiage with walks from the cottage to the resoviours. Quick walk to the pub which has amble outdoor seating in the glorious sunshine. Brilliant weather for our three-day break, only downside of the cottage was that there was no outside area to sit but the pub made up for it...

Lovely walks from the door and many more a short drive away. Eyam is a fascinating place. Also went to Bakewell, Monsal Head, Linacre Reservoirs and Dovedale. Two pubs in easy walking distance. We had a lovely holiday with Abbie the greedy Labrador.

A great rural location for our walking weekend in the Peak District. Great dog friendly local pubs serving good food too. We loved visiting Chatsworth, the Mensal Head viaduct and Linacre Reservoirs. We would definitely stay at The Old Cow Shed again, the owners were friendly but unobtrusive.

We had the most lovely stay at the cow shed and can’t wait to return. From the moment we arrived the owner welcomed us and gave us information of places nearby. From first entering the cottage was very warm and welcoming and surprisingly spacious, the facilities were very good with a box filled with information about local places to visit. The house was very clean and only a couple of minutes walk from 2 local pubs and the Linacre reservoir which was stunning and definitely worth a visit. Nearby Bakewell and Matlock were only 15 minutes drive and access to the motorway was also only 3 miles away. Bringing dogs with us for our stay we found the cottage being based away from the road was particularly handy and it was easy to keep clean after their long walks. We can’t wait to visit the old cow shed again.
