The owners have taken great pride in maintaining some original features whilst incorporating all the modern day necessities to make Barn Owl Cottage an incredibly comfortable place to take a holiday to remember. You will find yourself on the owners’ working farm with chickens roaming the garden and footpaths, and enjoying the day to day running of this wonderful working farm. Look to the rear of the barn and you will discover the original ice house which used to serve the nearby Willersley Castle. Clustered around a courtyard, the barn is set in a rural location nestled in the Derwent Valley yet in easy reach of many of Derbyshire’s attractions, particularly nearby Matlock and Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Carsington Water and of course the wonderful Chatsworth House. After a hard day exploring all Derbyshire has to offer, relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Barn Owl Cottage.

Owners made us feel very welcome. Easy distance to Matlock. Milk and biscuits on arrival much appreciated. Will certainly try to come back again.

Wonderful little cottage. We would have liked WIFI and a bath (for the kids), but actually quite enjoyed the time away from the internet! Really enjoyed our stay, and the kids loved the farm animals

The only word of warning was the road at the bottom of the farm track. It was much too dangerous to walk down. There was no footpath and on a blind bend, it was also very busy with traffic. Because of this we took the he car every time for our safety.

Very nice cottage,we had an enjoyable 4 days in barn owl cottage.Wendy showed us around,on arrival, and left us to do our own thing, just how I like it. The cottage was very warm, and comfortable, and within easy access to main routes. I did some cycling, and enjoyed the routes, and hills around Cromford. The climb back up to the cottage tested me after a few miles around the peaks. I will be returning all 3 of us,thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

Following a warm welcome from Wendy, we found our cottage was cosy, spotlessly clean and well equipped, including milk and biscuits. Ideal place to stay with a dog. The only downside from our two teenage boys perspective was that there was no wi-fi. Didn't bother Mum and Dad! Lovely area, good walks from the door step, although there is a short distance along the road into Cromford with no pavement . Good places to eat out in Cromford and Matlock bath. Over all we had a great holiday, and would definitely stay again.

A very spacious, cosy cottage in an excellent location for exploring the beautiful surrounding area. We took our little boy and he absolutely loved every minute on the farm, and spent lots of time with the animals. He even got to see some tiny lambs. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, and the cottage had everything we needed. We will definitely be back.

The cottage is very nice, includes everything needed and in a lovely area. The owners were very friendly and helpful and being on the farm was great fun, being invited to go and see the animals was great for the kids. The walk down in to the village was not bad at all, one stretch without pavement on a narrow, but fairly quiet road, but was not really an issue. Easy reach of the train station and lovely walk along the canal and area. The village pub, the Boat House Inn was great, friendly land lady and other customers and dog friendly. Would definitely recommend!
