We spent a lovely mini-holiday at Millstone Cottage. The cottage is very cosy and extremely clean, with all the comfort inside. ..If I have to think of something that I would have liked, that would have been a small garden. Perfect location, very close to all attraction points of the area.Strongly recommended to everyone who is looking for good value for money.

Millstone Cottage itself is lovely. The village is picturesque and the location is great for exploring Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock Bath, Chatsworth and Ladybower Reservoir. We found it to be very clean and well equipped. On the downside, the stairs are extremely steep and my husband who is over 6foot hit his head when trying to use them so take care if you are tall. The bed in the master was not comfortable I'm afraid and was very squeaky if you moved even a tiny amount. My daughter said the single bed was very comfortable but it was also exceptionally squeaky and she couldn't sleep the first night. For these reasons, I've needed to rate comfort lower. Finding the cottage was a challenge. The village is lots of narrow streets on hills and pretty scary to navigate. We struggled to find it at first as some of the cottages don't have clearly visible names. When we did find it, there's nowhere to park the car to unload without blocking the street or parking right outside someone's house so we had to do this extremely quickly. Then you have to leave your car somewhere else by a wall on a slope. A good handbrake is essential. So overall, lovely cottage and great location but just be aware of some challenges around parking which are, I guess, symptomatic of the location i.e. when the cottages were built, people wouldn't have had cars. I would suggest to the owner that the beds are looked at, though.

A great cottage.Lovely to enter a warm cottage after our long drive. The treats were very welcomed. A good place to use as a base as there are some great places to visit in easy reach. The dogs loved being there plenty of cafes and pubs are dog friendly. The peak district is my favourite place in England.

Absolutely lovely cottage that has recently undergone some renovation making the property even more attractive than the photos show. The dishwasher and washing machine were really useful when staying for a week. The heating and fire kept the cottage lovely and cosy all of the time we were there. The cottage was perfect for the dogs and safety gates at both the top and bottom of the stairs kept them secure. The stairs in the property are very steep, not very deep and of a shiny wood material. This did make them somewhat precarious when coming down and even as a healthy/fit 33 year old I still had to hold both the bannister and balustrades to be safe. The caretaker did state that they are looking to put non slip strips on the stairs but anyone with mobility issues would do best to avoid until this is done. The kitchen was also short a few useful items such as a large frying pan and some Pyrex dishes which would have made our planned dinners easier to cook but on the whole the kitchen was well stocked. The complimentary box of biscuits, bottle of wine and bottle of water were all lovely touches.

Beautiful cottage, recently refurbished with lovely new kitchen, photos do not do it justice. Spotlessly clean, everything you need. Very helpful and friendly caretaker. Only thing I would say is that the mattress in the double room is very squeaky, so every time either of us moved during the night, it woke the other person up! Lovely village, best fish and chips from local chip shop EVER! Amazing views.

Situated on a very steep, narrow hill, this 16th century cottage has all modern amenities and is dog-friendly. No garden, but does have a BBQ in a tiny paved area to the front of the property. An enjoyable stay and the caretaker is most friendly, she left us a bottle of wine and box of shortbread on arrival. Beware of satnav sending you down the road to the front door (with a letterbox), it's impassable. You need the road that leads to the back door (Far Hill). Parking is next to a cliff just around the corner.
