Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

This cottage is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts with walking and cycle trails from the doorstep, or perhaps enjoy a quiet family break away in beautiful surroundings.

The Bobbin is a charming converted barn which started its life as a cow and pig sty. Lovingly-presented, The Bobbin is a wonderful cottage which still retains many of its original features, such as the feeding trough as you walk through the front door and beautiful exposed stone walls. The barn is situated on the A632, giving easy access to exploring the local area.
Set on the edge of the Peak District National Park, there is plenty to see and do from the doorstep, with many walking and cycle trails, and one leads through Ashover, a pretty village which boasts a unique downloadable audio trail, with the ability to bring the whole route to life. The River Amber flows through the village which is well known for the Ashover show in August and the festival in September.
Ogston Reservoir is just 2½ miles away where guests can enjoy water sports, birdwatching and fishing. Both Matlock and Matlock Bath with its cable car ride to Abraham Heights is only 3 miles, where you can tour the Mining Museum or walk alongside the River Derwent. Why not take a drive to Crich Tramway Museum, Chatsworth House, Bakewell or Haddon, which are all well worth a visit. The historical town of Chesterfield is around a 20-minute drive with its crooked spire and lively market. Shop 1 mile, pub with restaurant ¼ mile.

We had a lovely stay at the Bobbin. Such a clean, well equipped and well thought out accommodation. We would certainly recommend to others and would stay again without hesitation. Little touches like wine and chocolates along with milk in the fridge made us feel very welcome.

Noisy road by the cottage, has a strong smell inside, beds lumpy, but beautiful views.

Absolutely wonderful cottage, well presented, very comfortable. The noise from road was only drawback but not enough to spoil a lovely holiday. The owners gave us good information of surrounding area, and some money off vouchers to some local attractions, much appreciated. Would definetely return!

Just had a superb week at The Bobbin. The hosts, Helen and John, were very welcoming and the cottage was a really lovely home for the week with everything we needed. Hope to come again sometime and will definitely recommend to our friends and family.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Bobbin. The value for money I thought was excellent. We went with our two children (6 and 3) and they absolutely loved it. The only negative was the busy main road but this was clearly explained and it is not really an issue. The underfloor heating throughout was fantastic and made the barn very warm on a snowy weekend. We visited Ashover (about 1.5 miles away) and took a walk as suggested in the visitor book and had a wonderful time. The Bobbin has everything you need for a short break or even a longer holiday and we will be back I am sure.

Lovely cottage in a great location. Very cosy and snug. The hosts Helen and John were lovely, very welcoming and provided helpful information regarding the property and the area. The cottage was immaculate and had everything you needed. The little extra touches provided by the owners were very thoughtful and welcomed. Only a 5 minute drive into the beautiful Matlock. The village has a pub which is in walking distance and the next village along Ashover has a few pubs where you can have a meal. Very picturesque. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

A stunning cottage, beautifully renovated. Had everything we needed and bottle of wine and chocolates on arrival. Owners are just across drive and really friendly and helpful. It is on a busy main road and you could hear the traffic but it didnt bother us. The scenery is incredible. We will definitely be goimg back and i would highly recommend it.
