A tastefully renovated, secret haven tucked away on the edge of the Peak District within easy reach of many attractions.

Tucked away in the beautiful village of Bonsall, this perfect ‘chocolate box’ hideaway has been expertly turned into a secret haven by the owner’s keen eye for interior design and renovation. Exquisite soft furnishings and furniture, along with a cosy woodburner, add to the charm and character. Penny Cottage sits detached, directly on the Limestone Way where you can experience charming fields, dales, caves, cliffs, gorges, woodland and riverside paths along the route. Bonsall is a village of 1000 inhabitants in the Derbyshire Dales on the edge of the Peak District and has a long history of lead mining, possibly going back to Roman times, and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Bonsall inhabitants have been involved in the textile industry, pre- and post-Arkwright. In early modern times it was on an important salters’ route, and was a staging post on the road between Derby and Manchester. Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park and just a short drive from the famous Arkwright Mills at Cromford, Penny Cottage makes an ideal base from which to explore the region’s attractions. Matlock and Bakewell are close by, as is the picturesque village of Crich with its fantastic Tramway Village, while majestic Chatsworth House and Carsington Reservoir, with its sailing centre, are well worth a visit. After a day exploring, sit in the beautiful garden with a glass in hand as the sun sets over the tree-lined fields. Shop 400 yards, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

We go up to Derbyshire regularly so have stayed in a number of cottages but Penny Cottage was one of our favourites. It was immaculately clean, tastefully decorated and amazingly equipped - right down to supplying enough dishwasher tablets and coffee to last us the whole week. The WiFi connection was much stronger than in many other cottages in the region, so streaming wasn't a problem, the shower was great and the beds so comfy that I want to know where they got their bedding from so we can get the same at home! What struck us most, however, was the wonderful welcome and attention to detail. Being there over New Year we were greeted with a homemade cake, milk and even a bottle of bubbly in the fridge, not to mention hot chocolate, scrabble pieces set out to read 'Happy New Year' and even some family games under the Christmas tree. Although not set up for babies and young children we brought our own travel cot and travel high chair and were extremely comfortable. We simply loved the cottage and the only thing that may make us hesitate to return in the summer is the fact that the garden is on several levels with steep drops so not suitable for a toddler to be left unattended. But if we don't come back in the summer we'll definitely be back next winter. Thank you for a wonderful week!

We loved Penny cottage. So pretty and with a lovely garden for sitting out in. The village was lovely- great for walks and there were 2 pubs, a tea room (which we tested twice on our weekend) and a village shop & deli all within an easy walk. The Cottage owner was very welcoming and gave good instructions and she even allowed us a late check out on Sunday which was much appreciated. The Cottage was beautifully decorated, spotless, was very well equipped with everything you might want. I thoroughly enjoyed the lovely shower and we even made use of the cosy log burner one night. The only minor negatives were: there's only one toilet (but we knew this when we booked) & the garden isn't totally private as you get a number of walkers going past up the trail- not a big problem for us but may be a concern for others. All in all, we had a lovely, relaxing, rare weekend away from the kids. We were blessed with the best weather on Saturday so we did so much walking around the village that day that I ached the next. I thoroughly enjoyed my Sunday lie-in (the bed was so comfy; it had lovely squashy pillows and duvet!) If you a couple of two couples sharing, then this is the perfect cottage for a lovely break in the Derbyshire Dales.

The moment we arrived we thought this was a fantastic cottage, very comfortable in a lovely village setting. Bonsall is a small village which has 2 pubs, a small shop and a café, which were all great. We ate in the pub literally across the road on a number of occasions and the food was great. There are also good walks on the doorstep and is only about 3 miles from Matlock, which we could walk to. This was also a great base for exploring the Peak District

A delightful cottage in a peaceful setting with a very pretty garden. The owners left it spotlessly clean with welcoming, flowers and cakes! Not really suitable for anyone with slight mobility/disability problems, as you have to park a short distance away to load/unload. No bath, just a shower, but overall a very pretty place!

A cosy and welcoming cottage with all the facilities you could require for a home away from home stay.
