A tastefully renovated, secret haven tucked away on the edge of the Peak District within easy reach of many attractions.

Tucked away in the beautiful village of Bonsall, this perfect ‘chocolate box’ hideaway has been expertly turned into a secret haven by the owner’s keen eye for interior design and renovation. Exquisite soft furnishings and furniture, along with a cosy woodburner, add to the charm and character. Penny Cottage sits detached, directly on the Limestone Way where you can experience charming fields, dales, caves, cliffs, gorges, woodland and riverside paths along the route. Bonsall is a village of 1000 inhabitants in the Derbyshire Dales on the edge of the Peak District and has a long history of lead mining, possibly going back to Roman times, and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Bonsall inhabitants have been involved in the textile industry, pre- and post-Arkwright. In early modern times it was on an important salters’ route, and was a staging post on the road between Derby and Manchester. Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park and just a short drive from the famous Arkwright Mills at Cromford, Penny Cottage makes an ideal base from which to explore the region’s attractions. Matlock and Bakewell are close by, as is the picturesque village of Crich with its fantastic Tramway Village, while majestic Chatsworth House and Carsington Reservoir, with its sailing centre, are well worth a visit. After a day exploring, sit in the beautiful garden with a glass in hand as the sun sets over the tree-lined fields. Shop 400 yards, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

A delightful cottage in a peaceful setting with a very pretty garden. The owners left it spotlessly clean with welcoming, flowers and cakes! Not really suitable for anyone with slight mobility/disability problems, as you have to park a short distance away to load/unload. No bath, just a shower, but overall a very pretty place!

A cosy and welcoming cottage with all the facilities you could require for a home away from home stay.

We had an excellent few days at Penny Cottage - the cottage itself was cosy, warm & well equipped, there was a walk we could do from the front door and the village had a couple of pubs & a small little shop for essentials. A great place!

This cottage was everything we wanted and more. So clean it felt brand new, exceptionally equit with more than what you need (DVDs, games, blankets etc...) Extremely comfortable, lovely decor and very cosy - exactly what you want for a trip to the peaks. Thank you!

This was one of the nicest cottages we’ve stayed in. It’s beatifully done up, spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable and we were made to feel very welcome. We’re both allergic to dogs so the fact that they’re not allowed was a real bonus! We’ll definitely be back.

We stayed here for a long weekend as a get together with friends. The standard of the cottage was exceptional and the attention to detail was first class. The cottage is absolutely beautiful, we were really wowed by it and it's so well equipped, the owners really have thought of everything and added so many thoughtful finishing touches that just made me smile through and through. The gardens of the cottage were beautiful, perfect for sitting out in and grabbing some autumn sunshine in the mornings and afternoons and in the evenings, when it turned a little chilly, we were thrilled to light the beautiful log burner and snuggle in. The beds were really comfy, as were the sofas; the whole standard was excellent. The cottage is well located in a beautiful little village, there are walks right on your doorstep and good local amenities including a pub nearby and a gorgeous little village shop/deli. All in all we had a wonderful stay at Penny Cottage and would definitely go back for a longer stay; it was all that we could have hoped for and more and we couldn't have felt more welcome. A proper little gem, we loved it!
