The large living area boasts a gallery and a wood-burning stove. The property also boasts a downstairs twin bedroom, a unique double bedroom with a very large bed and a walk-in shower in the bathroom. Kingsley Holt is an ideal area for Alton Towers and for exploring the great outdoors in the Southern Peak District and Staffordshire Moorlands, one of Britain’s best kept secrets. Riding, cycling and walks are in abundance locally, especially on the Staffordshire Way and Tissington Trail. The Potteries with Trentham Garden Estates, Churnet Valley and Dovedale are all within 12 miles. Market towns such as Ashbourne, Cheadle, Leek, Bakewell, Stone and Uttoxeter are all a short drive away. Two steam railways, historic places of interest such as Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House, many industrial museums and potteries are all within easy reach. Shop and pub 1 mile.

    Beautiful Barn, set in an idyllic location. Perfect for 10people lots of space and comfort for everyone. Short walk to the local pubs and shop who were very welcoming. 20 minute drive from the Peak District National Park. We had a fantastic weekend away and look forward to returning next Summer.

    Three generations of one family celebrating a birthday. The Cowshed was everything we were expecting and more. Lovely house, with plenty of room for everyone, in lovely surroundings. The Cowshed had everything we needed for a perfect weekend. The children loved exploring the nearby woods. Gary and Ken were really helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble. We were sad to leave and would definitely go again .

    An exceptional cottage finished to a high standard. However it let itself down on a number of things which are all easily solvable. It had too few outside seats for the number of guests the cottage holds. The cooker’s oven and baking trays were not very clean at all and had to be cleaned before use. The oven discharged black oily smoke the first time we switched it on which was very unpleasant. The oven trays need to be replaced. This would not be an expensive outlay. The oven could also do with a professional deep clean. The food cupboard, holding past guests’ excess food etc held some things that were out of date. These were “binned”. A quick check before occupancy would have avoided this. The kitchen floor whilst looking stunning, was a tripping hazard with several of our guests catching their footwear on the slabs due to low grout. I would suggest that in a kitchen environment with hot liquids etc this was undesirable. The cd rack in the inner hall was a jumbled mess with broken cd cases and cds just dumped. We were told that there would be enough wood for at least one fire. Two or three logs do not In my opinion constitute enough fuel for one fire. However due to good weather we didn’t need to use the log burner. We found the owner and family member on site very friendly and helpful. I hope you find theses comments constructive and useful.

    Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you very much for acknowledging that our property is exceptional- we are extremely proud of it. However, given the very high standards that we maintain, we are disappointed with a number of your comments. Any outdoor furniture that we provide at the property must be both durable and safe for our guests. We have, therefore, purchased only good quality robust items of furniture. We have an ongoing program of adding to the collection at the property, which currently include further dining and seating. In terms of the cleanliness of the oven at the property, it can be seen that our highest score is achieved for cleanliness. We are most fortunate to have a local lady who has looked after the property from the outset and who has exceptionally high standards. The oven is stripped and cleaned between each guest visit. We can only conclude that the smoke that you experienced was cleaning fluid. With regard to the oven trays, all the cookware, crockery and glass wear is checked weekly and items that are not fit for purpose are replaced. There is only one small cupboard at the property, which contains a few food items such as salt, pepper and dried herbs and spices. The only other items at the property are tea and coffee. These are left for the convenience of the guests and are checked regularly. The kitchen floor is a huge feature of the property, is black Indian slate and has irregular characteristics. To our knowledge, there has never been any incident of tripping in all the time the property has been occupied by our guests. The CD rack is not maintained but most of our guests view this in the spirit in which it is intended – a little bit of fun to enhance their stay. You did not lay a fire at the property but we can assure you that there are sufficient logs, coal, kindling and firelighters for one good fire. Thereafter our guests are aware that they can either purchase supplies locally or they can bring them along. We had a lengthy conversation with you before your visit and did invite you to bring any issues to our attention at the time so that we could discuss them and react promptly. We would have found this constructive and useful had you done so.

    Lovely barn conversion in an ideal location to visit Alton Towers. We were a party of three generations and the space provided allowed us not to be on top of each other. Sadly the weather was not kind to us so we were unable to enjoy the outside space. A minor consideration is that all the beds were very firm mattresses and may not suit everyone’s back and allow for a good nights sleep. Overall we had an enjoyable week and the owner was easily contactable should we have had any concerns.

With regard to the mattresses at our property, these are replaced regularly to keep everything pristine. The selection that we always make is of medium firmness in an attempt to cater for the majority of tastes but we do appreciate that this is a matter of personal preference.

    Booked the cow shed for a family weekend and we certainly weren’t disappointed, the house is beautiful with good quality fittings, it is also very well equipped with everything you need. We would love to go back but maybe in the warmer weather, I will definitely recommend it to friends and family The booking process was easy, with good communication from the owner
