A cosy, warm, spacious and well equipped cottage, with welcoming and helpful owners, situated in a pleasant rural village. We enjoyed discovering beautiful Exmoor from the centrally located cottage.

It was a lovely quiet country cottage with a fantastic pub near by. Just a few issues. We love to cook and found a few things missing. A scales was one and also we couldn't read the dials on the cooker. The welcome basket was nice, but we found a random glove and fleece in the kitchen. When my sons girlfriend picked up her hanky from the floor, she found a nail clipping ! Hairs in the shower. We don't want to be too critical that's why we didn't write in the book. Also not enough loo roll or dishwasher tabs. Logs we were given were damp so we went out and bought our own. It has great potential, and it's in a wonderful location, we really don't want to be negative, but if this is fed back to the owners we think they could charge a lot more, it has so much potential.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I write in response to your review. We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our property and are sorry that you found hairs in the shower. I am very particular about hygiene and am going to treat this as an isolated incident as we have never had a complaint before. Regards the nail clipping, again apologies for this, we vacuum the whole property thoroughly on changeover and can only assume that it was unfortunately missed. You stated that there was a glove and fleece left. The fleece was mine and I forgot that I had taken it off in there. I would have been happy to have either collected it or have it handed in along with the glove that had been left. This was probably left by a previous guest, and again I would have been happy to come in and collect it. We provide complimentary toilet rolls in each of the toilets, any further rolls needed could be purchased at the local shop. The dishwasher tablets are also complimentary. I normally include only a couple to get people started; again these can be purchased locally. You stated that the logs were wet and you had to go and purchase some of your own. We keep a good supply of logs and had you informed us that they were damp, we would have happily replaced them for you. As the Owner, and being only next door to the cottage, I feel that it would have been more beneficial to us to have been informed of these issues you had at the time of your stay. By not being informed, you denied us the opportunity of putting things right for you. We are very approachable friendly people and we pride ourselves on assisting our guests in having a happy and comfortable stay with us. I have lent previous guests my iron on request and would have been happy to lend you a set of scales if that would have assisted you with your cooking. I do provide a good amount of cookware in our kitchen, but scales are something that I have never been asked for before.

The kitchen was well-equipped. We appreciated that there was a large fridge and freezer (as some places that say they have a fridge and freezer actually have a small larder freezer with a tiny ice box). The fireplace in the sitting room really makes the room. We ended up buying more wood as well as kindling as we discovered that it was seriously fun stoking and getting the fire going. The carpets and bed linens were all clean. There was some red fluff on quite a few of the plates, bowls and dishes. Perhaps someone had wiped them with a red cloth prior to our arrival? This wasn't a major issue, but you might want to watch out for this and give the dishes a quick rinse if necessary. The partition doors between Karslake House and the owners are quite thin. For example, when we were sat in the sitting room reading, we could sometimes hear the owners laughing through the partitions. And one night we were woken at around 11.30pm by voices and maybe laughter, which was less than ideal. We tend to get up quite early, so this wasn't a problem, but we could also hear noise from around 7am onwards - so be aware of the thin, non-soundproof partition doors between Karslake House the the owners if you are a light sleeper.

We had a lovely short break at Karslake House and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners who live next door were very friendly, the property is very well equipped and there was plenty of room for the two us. We will definitely book this property again.

Karslake House is situated in a quiet rural village with a pub/restaurant nearby. Ideal if you wish a very quiet break. The pub was extremely busy every night, the first two nights there wasn't a seat! Although expensive it is very popular with the yuppie locals. The house itself if well equipped, comfortable and spotlessly clean.
