Description

With 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, this impressive manor boasts super accommodation for larger groups. Short walk to the beach and amenities.

Be lord or lady of the manor at this charming, historic Grade II* listed house. The Old Manor at Dunster dates back to around 1400, where it is believed the Constable of Dunster Castle lived. Being a house of a certain age, the interior of the manor contains many interesting architectural features including its own chapel. From the impressive great hall with grand open fireplace, to the stunning solar room and charming gardens, complete with orchard, including apples, pear and plums, the house is sure to provide you with a memorable holiday. The spacious living areas are complimented with lovely bedrooms, most benefiting from en-suite facilities. This historical landmark property is ideal for extended families or small groups to gather for a special occasion.

From The Old Manor, you can walk down to the beach, or just up the lane is Dunster Station, which is part of the West Somerset Steam Railway network. The medieval village of Dunster with its impressive castle (National Trust) is a short distance away, as well as a good range of local shops and restaurants. The coastal town of Minehead is nearby, with its promenade, historic harbour and a good range of larger shops and other amenities. Minehead is also the starting point of the South West Coastal Path. The house is ideally suited for a visit to Exmoor National Park where walking is available for all abilities and some stunning views to enjoy across the Bristol Channel. Venture out and visit the village of Porlock Weir, Selworthy and its famous tea room, and the Victorian town of Lynton and Lynmouth. Golf, fishing and horse riding are available locally. Stunning house with great historical features but modern facilities. Homely and with everything inside you could need. The weather was hot so the coolness in the house due to the thick old walls was very welcome. The only complaint was as it was so hot, the mattress protectors were plastic. Also there are no comfortable seats in the garden, wrought iron table and chairs and in the heat it would have been good to relax in the garden. The location is great, very quiet and easy walk to beach and Dunster village where there are good restaurants and independent shops. Would like to return in autumn/winter to experience a cosy warm holiday break.

If you want to stay in a property that is full of history and character this is the place for you. The property is huge with lots of period furnishings and paintings/tapestries, and has the most wonderful grounds including formal gardens , an orchard and other large areas, at the time of our visit there were enormous expanses of daffodils which were magnificent.

We had the most brilliant New Year at The Old Manor! This house is completely unique - a huge gothic, beamed, characterful pile right next to the Dunster steam railway and a short walk into charming Dunster. Each bedroom was very comfortable and 100% clean. Unusually there are lots of bathrooms - which is brilliant when you have a large group. Similarly, the hot water and heating all work perfectly so we were never cold. The kitchen is very well stocked with pots and pans and we really enjoyed cooking each day. There’s a great selection of DVDs and the sauna was great too. The beach is close and we went on lovely a walk in Exmoor. Dunster is very charming and also just a short walk away. We really can’t recommend The Old Manor enough. The owners were extremely kind and responded to messages very quickly. We really look forward to coming back one day!

Our stay was a family gathering of nine with an age group from eighteen months to the seventies. The property suited us admirally, it was historic, spacious, well furnished and well located to enjoy the local attractions. The only improvement we would have appreciated was showering facilities in more of the bathrooms. Must find a reason to come again!

The Old Manor is an absolutely stunning property. My friends and I stayed here to celebrate my special birthday. The house is full of charm, lovely and warm and absolutely spotless. The owner, Stella, was so helpful, sending me maps and giving useful information before we arrived, just fabulous. The Luttrell Arms provided us with a lovely lunch after a long walk. The Dunster Watermill tea room was a perfect coffee & cake stop & The Stags Head did the most amazing Sunday lunch. The steam train that regularly passes, was a two minute walk away, a brilliant trip, a proper step back in time treat! The Old Manor gardens are beautiful and impeccably maintained, we saw the rabbits that live there & the horses over the fence. The local people are friendly and welcoming. We had the best time ever & wouldn’t hesitate to book again. Brilliant!
