Very dissatisfied with cleanliness. Rice particles under glass tops, hadn’t even been moved to clean. Food particles in cutlery draws. Numerous stains on various carpets lounge, upstairs etc. Hairs (probably dog) inside our bed. Paid for a 4 bed cottage and only 2 beds made up, and no covers to be had! Stair/landing carpet torn. No outside chairs to sit on in the sun. Signs all over the place ‘don’t do this, don’t do that’. Grass not cut and in a bad state of repair. And to cap it all received a txt one evening asking if he could come next day to suit us to deliver bedding and cut grass. We agreed a time which was ignored he arrived over an hour late, and we felt we had to go out. when we returned back to the house after 2 hours he was still there! The grass would have taken us 10mins to cut! After speaking with him we found he was the owner, we felt deceived by the whole event and that we were been checked upon, firstly telling us he was delivering and then been in the house for 2 hours, to cap it all when we went back into the house he had opened windows, moved some of our belongings around and plumped up the cushions! We were cross with him and said it was ‘our home’ for the week and we could keep the house clean and tidy ourselves which we do as a matter of course! Not a pleasant experience!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Arrangements we made to which the guests agreed that is was OK for the gardens to be attended to, flowers watered etc. & a time was also agreed & kept to. As far as the cleaning goes our cottage is cleaned to a very high standard as shown in many previous feed backs. If you had a problem when you first noticed why not make contact with us immediately, whereby we could have recalled our cleaners back to rectify. We therefore trust future guests will read our other very positive wonderful feed backs for a more balanced review of our beautiful cottage.

Superb little cottage - very comfortable, clean and well appointed. Great hosts too. Only accommodation improvements would be somewhere to hang coats and a second shower. Amazing beach at Woolacombe and fabulous walks from the cottage and the coast path. Would highly recommend.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Many thanks for an excellent review. Regarding your two points; I’m not sure where we would be expected to put in another shower given that the cottage has a full size bath, and 3 separate toilets? Regarding hanging of coats, in the utility room there are coat hooks, also behind bedroom doors and the wardrobes have hangers so we feel there is adequate places to hang them.

We as a family of three and our pet dog has a great time staying at Lynton Cottage. It really was a ‘home from home ‘ and exceeded expectations. Location wise it was perfect as it was in easy reach of numerous walks and beaches along with some of the beautiful villages in the area. Plenty of pubs in Combe Martin within walking distance along with convenience stores. The owners(Richard and Diana) contacted us upon arrival to make sure we had arrived ok and also followed up later in the week to make sure everything was as expected and we were having a good time. It’s little touches like this along with the obvious extra touches in that cottage itself that makes all the difference when staying in someobody else’s property. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Lynton Cottage and would look to stay here again if we visited the area in the future. Hutchinson family and Misty

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Lynton Cottage. The cottage was warm and welcoming, very clean and fresh smelling. We stayed over new year and it was lovely to find a bottle of bubbly and some chocolates waiting for us on arrival, as well as other basics like milk in the fridge which was a really thoughtful touch by the owners. The cottage was well equipped throughout and all of the equipment was in excellent condition. The only downside for us was not having a shower in the main bathroom only the ensuite. The beds were really comfortable and we all (adults and children) slept well all week. We stayed over new year and found that the majority of the village was closed which was a shame as we never got to experience as much of what is on offer locally as we would like to have. However, for access to other parts of North Devon, the location was great. The cottage is about a mile from the beach in Combe Martin but the footpath is not very wide/all on one side of the road which made the walk difficult with our pushchair and young daughter walking. We had some lovely walks up the hills from the cottage which was great to be able to walk from the front door. Overall, we would recommend this cottage as a lovely, comfortable place to stay.

Perfect cottage, definitely a home from home, the attention to detail was outstanding and we can’t wait to return in the Spring. Thanks to Richard and Diana, the owners of Lynton Cottage, who were so attentive during our two week stay. The wine and bag of coal was much appreciated on arrival. Thanks a million to both of you x

Booked Lynton cottage for my birthday week and wow wow wow!! Spacious, clean, very comfortable with everything you need for a fantastic time. The cottage itself is late 16th century so absolutely full of charm, full of warmth for those dark cold evenings with the added bonus of a delightful wood burner. Really tastefully decorated with furnishings etc to match. The cottage is in a superb location close to the beach, pubs and great food etc in the local pub (pack of cards) Situated within easy reach of coastal walks, national trust properties and exmoor etc. This property is truly inspirational and too good to pass by! The owners Richard & Diana were delightful in there approach to making sure you had a fantastic stay. I will not hesitate to book this cottage again in the future, a true gem. Thank you so much.

Beautiful area & everybody very friendly & helpful. Fully appreciate how this cottage is well equipped & the complimentary wine, milk, tea, coffee, sugar & lovely touches such as fresh flowers in vase. Bedrooms, bathrooms clean & decor in keeping with the age of cottage. Our only criticism was the condition of carpet & settee in the lounge. While tidying the throws we noticed the poor state of settee underneath. Also the large back supporting cushions have been replaced by pillows with covers. There are a number of instructions sheets as what to do or not. We can only surmise that there have been issues in the past.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for your lovely comments. It’s great to hear how much you appreciated our cottage and how friendly you found everyone – we have to agree we are such a friendly bunch down here in glorious Devon. We also love our doggies and as we are so close to Exmoor and the North Devon coast paths, this makes us one of the most successful cottages in Combe Martin. With regards to the settee cushions - it came with the larger pillow back cushions as per the photos. After a very successful year (fully booked since March) we will be looking to give the carpets and soft furnishings a deep clean when we get a free week. We have had a few issues in the past with guests allowing pets on the furniture and upstairs and placing hot Tea/Coffee mugs on our furniture etc and so the guide sheets are provided to assist our guests – this helps ensure the cottage is kept up to the high standards which we strive for.
