We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Lynton Cottage. The cottage was warm and welcoming, very clean and fresh smelling. We stayed over new year and it was lovely to find a bottle of bubbly and some chocolates waiting for us on arrival, as well as other basics like milk in the fridge which was a really thoughtful touch by the owners. The cottage was well equipped throughout and all of the equipment was in excellent condition. The only downside for us was not having a shower in the main bathroom only the ensuite. The beds were really comfortable and we all (adults and children) slept well all week. We stayed over new year and found that the majority of the village was closed which was a shame as we never got to experience as much of what is on offer locally as we would like to have. However, for access to other parts of North Devon, the location was great. The cottage is about a mile from the beach in Combe Martin but the footpath is not very wide/all on one side of the road which made the walk difficult with our pushchair and young daughter walking. We had some lovely walks up the hills from the cottage which was great to be able to walk from the front door. Overall, we would recommend this cottage as a lovely, comfortable place to stay.

Perfect cottage, definitely a home from home, the attention to detail was outstanding and we can’t wait to return in the Spring. Thanks to Richard and Diana, the owners of Lynton Cottage, who were so attentive during our two week stay. The wine and bag of coal was much appreciated on arrival. Thanks a million to both of you x

Booked Lynton cottage for my birthday week and wow wow wow!! Spacious, clean, very comfortable with everything you need for a fantastic time. The cottage itself is late 16th century so absolutely full of charm, full of warmth for those dark cold evenings with the added bonus of a delightful wood burner. Really tastefully decorated with furnishings etc to match. The cottage is in a superb location close to the beach, pubs and great food etc in the local pub (pack of cards) Situated within easy reach of coastal walks, national trust properties and exmoor etc. This property is truly inspirational and too good to pass by! The owners Richard & Diana were delightful in there approach to making sure you had a fantastic stay. I will not hesitate to book this cottage again in the future, a true gem. Thank you so much.

Beautiful area & everybody very friendly & helpful. Fully appreciate how this cottage is well equipped & the complimentary wine, milk, tea, coffee, sugar & lovely touches such as fresh flowers in vase. Bedrooms, bathrooms clean & decor in keeping with the age of cottage. Our only criticism was the condition of carpet & settee in the lounge. While tidying the throws we noticed the poor state of settee underneath. Also the large back supporting cushions have been replaced by pillows with covers. There are a number of instructions sheets as what to do or not. We can only surmise that there have been issues in the past.

Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for your lovely comments. It’s great to hear how much you appreciated our cottage and how friendly you found everyone – we have to agree we are such a friendly bunch down here in glorious Devon. We also love our doggies and as we are so close to Exmoor and the North Devon coast paths, this makes us one of the most successful cottages in Combe Martin. With regards to the settee cushions - it came with the larger pillow back cushions as per the photos. After a very successful year (fully booked since March) we will be looking to give the carpets and soft furnishings a deep clean when we get a free week. We have had a few issues in the past with guests allowing pets on the furniture and upstairs and placing hot Tea/Coffee mugs on our furniture etc and so the guide sheets are provided to assist our guests – this helps ensure the cottage is kept up to the high standards which we strive for.

We stayed at lynton cottage with our 2 adult sons, daughter in law and 3 year old grandaughter. We all enjoyed our stay with the good amenities in the well equipped cottage providing a home from home, and the local area providing a lovely environment for a relaxing weeks stay. We would recommend to anyone seeking the same expeience that we enjoyed.

Comfortable cottage ideally situated for exploring the beautiful countryside from Ilfracombe to Minehead. Fully equipped kitchen but if you do plan to eat in, bring some basics like milk, salt, pepper, cooking oil etc. as these are not in the cottage, which you often find from previous holiday renters. Tea, coffee and sugar are provided and we were left two bottles of complimentary wine. There are two good, local convenience stores in Combe Martin, an excellent bakery, delicatessen and two good fish and chip shops, plus a small Boots and shops for beach goodies. There is a large Tesco superstore only 15 mins by car for a larger selection; EX34 8PF. It is a 20-25 min walk to Combe Martin beach along the main road that has little to no pavement in places, so we suggest you take the car to the easy beach parking. The cottage is located on the main road through the village (hadn't quite appreciated that at time of booking) but the traffic was light during our stay so did not disturb us too much. There is ample parking for 2 large cars, and possibly a third car, on the forecourt of the cottage and the locals are extremely friendly and helpful. The garden is a real sun trap, with 3 terraces accessed by decked and stone, slate chipping steps, perfect for relaxing but garden furniture is not available so take a picnic blanket and/or chairs if you wish to soak up some sun on lazy days. There is a table with benches for eating outside. Some local highlights include Ilfracombe, Lynton/Lynmouth and Woolacombe beach to name a few amongst the numerous hidden villages of Lee, Berrynarbor and Porlock with their tea shops and traditional pubs. There are some lovely country pubs serving great food and real ales all within an easy drive. Recommendations: Black Venus Inn at Challacombe, The Rising Sun and The Village Inn at Lynmouth, The Grampus at Lee. Sawmills, which others recommend, was pie was tasty but partner's chilli was disappointing. We wouldn't recommend eating in the pubs in Combe Martin given our experience. Stunning part of Devon, and our hosts are very lucky to have a cottage here, and we will certain visit again. Highly recommend Exmoor as a holiday destination for walkers and those who like to potter about. Enjoy your stay!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are in agreement that our cottage is very comfortable & beautiful and thank you for saying we were very lucky to own it, and that the surrounding area is also beautiful which all of North Devon is and our community are very friendly & helpful. Regarding the salt & pepper comment, may I point out that we supply the cottage with toilet rolls in all our 3 toilets, we also supply kitchen roll, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets & cleaning materials, fresh kitchen cloths for drying up cutlery, complimentary Red & White wines, Flowers, Fresh Milk, Coffee, Tea & Sugar, please remember that Lynton Cottage is a self-catering property, but as mentioned we do offer the above so as soon as customers arrive fresh provisions are available. We do try and think of everything where maybe others fail to. Regarding pavements, this is a Devon country side village whereby we do have pavements that transverse either side of our village that leads you down to the various shops & to the beach. We are saddened to hear the criticisms of the lovely pubs/eateries in the area. Our local places to eat/drink, these as our previous feedback says it all; great food, great beer & hospitality, & most all welcome dogs, it was a shame your partner felt that his meal was not what he required but had he complained, knowing the staff like we do it would have been replaced with pleasure. This should not reflect the overall below average score given against so many 10s left by so many happy customers. I can assure all guests/holiday makers that we here in North Devon really try & give you & your pet/s a great welcome no matter what!
