In a setting of stunning natural beauty in the Exmoor National Park, with indoor heated swimming pool, Triscombe Farm Country Cottages are a combination of 19th century cottages and skilful conversions from existing farm buildings. Leisure facilities include an indoor heated swimming pool, games room (pool table and table tennis) and all-weather tennis court (please bring your own racquets and balls). Natural water is provided from our own spring. With unspoilt countryside all around, and reached by a long, sweeping driveway, the country cottages are nestling in a sheltered, wooded valley overlooking the River Quarme. Each of the cottages has been individually styled and equipped to offer comfortable holiday accommodation and are all located at the heart of the farm (wellies advisable during wet weather).
The cottages make the perfect base for holidays at any time of the year. A stream cascades through the hillside garden, there is ample space in which to sit and relax, or enjoy a family picnic or barbecue. Spectacular views across the valley to Dunkery Beacon unfold as you wander around. Badgers, buzzards, foxes, red deer and an abundance of birdlife can often be seen, so don’t forget your binoculars. Exmoor Safaris take you right into the heart of this area of heather clad moors, sheltered wooded combes, pretty villages with thatched cottages and ancient packhorse bridges. The National Park rangers provide guided walks.
A few miles from Triscombe is Exmoor’s spectacular, breathtaking and beautiful northern coast, the highest in Britain, with sheltered bays and where steep cliffs plunge into the sea. You can enjoy fantastic coastal walks here along the cliff top coastal path, with dramatic views of the coastline and out to sea. Triscombe farm was in a lovely unspoiled spot. The accomodation itself was a bit tired and needed a good sprucing up. The facilities also needed a little updating. The hosts were friendly and helpful. We found it a bit annoying that we had to pay for towels if we wanted them and thought that £5 per head was a bit steep for the old tatty towels we were offered. Also the fact we had to pay for electricity upon leaving was a bit much, maybe they should add this in add a cost at booking, we almost forgot and don't often carry cash and being in the middle of the national park there isn't a ATM that close by. In saying that we had a lovely peaceful holiday and enjoyed the local quaint villages.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; It was lovely to read that this family enjoyed a lovely peaceful holiday. We fully appreciate that guest reviews are subjective and comments such as "tired, dated, needing sprucing up" are contradicted within other reviews. We do furnish in keeping with this rural National Park location & have an ongoing maintenance & upgrading programme throughout the complex. The towels were pre ordered so these guests must have been aware that we hire towels. If they had asked for another supply to replace those now described as "tatty" this could have been done. There is an ATM machine at the post office/shop in Wheddon Cross. Electricity is as advertised, charged at cost, however we pay 21p/unit but only pass onto guests 16p / unit. This being calculated by meter reading at check in & check out. Like towel hire, we do this to give guests more control of the cost of their holiday rather than an all-inclusive tariff. For a holiday at the nearest complex also offering an indoor pool, towels to hire, heating included but electricity extra, their charge is £187/week more, much more than these guests paid in total for their holiday at Triscombe.

Triscombe farm is in a very picturesque location. Walking the paths in the fields above the farm was lovely. Although we didn't have a BBQ, the communal gardens were very nice. We particularly enjoyed picking blackberries and windfallen apples. We all loved the swimming pool (and mostly had it all to ourselves). The cottage itself was great. We weren’t familiar with Somerset before this holiday but would be happy to go again. Lots to see and do nearby.
