The historic market town of Ringwood is located on the eastern banks of the River Avon and the western edge of the New Forest. Also nearby is Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve, and for days out Bournemouth is to the south and Salisbury is to the north.

The town, which dates back to Anglo-Saxon times, has a weekly market that takes place in the traditional market place in the centre of the town and for more local produce of a liquid kind; Ringwood Brewery produces a variety of ales and wines.

For some local trivia; many of the scenes of The Brittas Empire, a BBC television comedy series, were filmed at the town''s health and leisure centre, whereas Ringwood''s Millstream Model Centre and Raceway is the largest slotcar racing centre in the UK.

There are many walking trails in, around and from the town, and fishing is available both on the River Avon, and on the surrounding lakes. Tennis courts, a bowling green, a skate park and a children''s playground provide further activities for all the family.

Spinnaker Club, the town''s successful sailing club, is based on Blashford Lake, just north of the town. The lakes, which were created by the quarrying of gravel and sand, are located within a 490-acre nature reserve. The reserve is an important site for thousands of migrating wildfowl, and birdwatching is a popular activity.

The New Forest National Park covers a large proportion of south-west Hampshire and south-east Wiltshire, and is one of the largest remaining unenclosed forest, heathland and pasture land in south east England. Ringwood is one of the gateways to the park, which contains numerous picnic areas, hundreds of kilometres of cycle paths and an engaging museum and visitor centre. Other attractions within the park include Exbury Gardens, Blackwater Arboretum, New Forest Wildlife Park, and New Forest Reptile Centre.
