Description

Martin Down National Nature Reserve is close by, and Fordingbridge and the New Forest are a short drive away.

Higher Farm is located just 6 miles from the New Forest National Park in the quiet, picturesque village of Martin within a conservation area and on the edge of Martin Down National Nature Reserve. These two single-storey barn conversions, adjoining one another, were formerly the saddle room and stables for the small farm and have been transformed into very comfortable, tastefully furnished and immaculately presented holiday accommodation with a contemporary, light and airy feel. On the farm guests are welcome to walk up and see the animals, which including chickens, horses and ponies and a small flock of sheep grazing in the fields. Each property has a personal sitting out area at the front, in addition to tables and chairs on the orchard. There is also a bicycle store, barbecue and croquet set. The village of Martin is set in the Cranborne Chase and West Wilshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and offers excellent scenic walks and cycle rides from the farm. The village has its own small community-run shop which opens twice a day on week days (9am-11am and 5pm-6pm) and once in the morning on Saturdays (9am-12.30pm) as well as an historic Norman church. The medieval city of Salisbury, 8 miles, has its famous cathedral spire and close, individual shops, pubs and restaurants, a theatre and a cinema which is housed in the old wool market, offers a unique cinema experience. The New Forest National Park boundary is a picturesque drive of around 6 miles and Godshill always has lots of New Forest ponies and cattle to enjoy. Fordingbridge is known for its famous medieval stone bridge with its fine arches; it boasts plenty of shops, pubs and cafés and there are excellent walks along the river. Within easy driving distance are the world heritage sites at Stonehenge and Dorset’s stunning Jurassic Coast including Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove, Longleat, Marwell Zoo, Paultons Park, Peppa Pig World, Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard including the Marie Rose and HMS Victory. Wonderful sandy beaches are to be found at Bournemouth, Studland and Mudeford. Small shop (limited opening times) in village, shop 6 miles, pub 3 miles.

A lovely cottage in a lovely location - great for Salisbury and Bath, as well as Poole and Bournemouth, and the likes of Stonehenge and Durdle Door etc. All of which we visited. Property has everything you can think of, including washing machine and dishwasher, and the has excellent mobile phone reception. The owners live on site and are very helpful. We will be visiting again!

A really nice place to stay for a short break. Very quiet, rural, pretty village. The Saddle Room is comfortable, very clean and well equipped (great water pressure in the shower!)

What a comfortable, cute and well equipped cottage! Situated on a little farm with chicken, dogs, bees, horses, and sheep in household sized amounts :), in the loveliest of landscapes, it makes the perfect place for a calm get-away. Kathryn and Martin are friendly and helpful hosts who even spoiled us with homemade cake and jam!

This is the most spacious compact holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in. A huge bedroom and relatively large kitchen/living area for a holiday cottage for only two people. It is beautifully decorated, as well as being clean and modern, it also contains everything you need for a week away. The village is quiet and the neighbourly cockerel wasn't too noisy in the morning. The broadband, the water pressure, the parking, the storage, the TV offering (and all those little things you don't think about until you miss them!) are excellent. We were made to feel very welcome and even had an Easter egg and delicious homemade shortbread upon arrival. Although there are no facilities in the village, we were close enough to other towns to buy whatever we needed. We could have spent 10 times longer in the area and still only do a fraction of what is on offer in this region of the UK. Next time, we would like to actually make it to the south coast.
