The northern Dales village of Reeth is situated where Swaledale and Arkengarthdale meet and occupies a natural amphitheatre offering wonderful views across the Dales countryside.

This former ancient Saxon settlement was once an important commercial centre for the local Dales economy due to the lead mines, but today it’s better known as a popular tourist destination due to its stunning location.

Reeth is overlooked by Calver Hill and Fremlington Edge, both of which can be climbed from the village. The surrounding countryside of the Northern Dales is spectacular and provides many challenging walks and other outdoor activities such as pony trekking, mountain biking and potholing. Nature lovers will enjoy the abundant wildlife on the fells where oystercatcher, curlews and lapwings are a common sight. Hares can also be spotted and occasionally, visitors will be lucky enough to see a black grouse.

Everything you need should be found in the village shop and bakery or at the Friday market on the green, but if you want a break from home cooking, the village has three pubs where you will find good traditional food and real ales.
